I'm pleased that Andy is playing Shenzhen beforehand.

I read some concern about him playing four matches in four days before Beijing and Shanghai. But, quite apart from the ranking points he is earning there, I reckon it's good to get these matches before the probable step up that follows.

Not an easy first match. I'm not looking any further than that!

Neither am I, but there is no doubt he is dangerous if his ball-blasting lands inside the lines. Andy will need to be careful he doesn't get blown off the court. I would definitely make Andy the favourite if it was BO5, but in BO3 it depends which Andy turns up, and which Janowicz.

Deffo not the easiest draw. Hopefully his W today will give him a boost, just hope he's not too tired for Shianghai. Can't see him getting 500 points here though.

Considering who has turned up here, I would say that taken together Andy has a decent draw for the first two rounds.

After that it was going to look very tough, whoever he got. He's avoided Djokovic and Nadal as potential QF opponents and got Cilic ( and what's he won recently anyway ? :) )

Quite a few draws have rather unravelled recently. We could maybe do with this one unravelling.

( not that I am saying that he would have no hope in his current form vs current top 10 players, see Shenzhen thread, since most of them can hardly be guaranteed to turn up with their A game ).

Wonder whether the players are able to access much in the way of media, what with the Chinese government blocking everything in sight (or site?) to avoid raising awareness of Hong Kong. Know they often complain about lack of access to social media in China anyway ...

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. The Pole has come out firing, ballbashing is going in the lines, and Andy is down 0-3*

Andy has to be more aggressive or this will get away from him very quickly.

And after that great come-back from 1-5 down, loses the tiebreak 9-11

Andy takes the second set 6-4. I still don't know how this match is going to end up. The Pole is so unpredictable - blasting winners one second and hitting the ball yards out the next.

Andy the come-back King wins 6-7(9) 6-4 6-2!
