Re top GB players potentially taking points off each other, we've only ended up with one pair of seeds meeting in the QFs. And 4 of the remaining seeds have a favourite's chance of reaching the SFs ( and worthwhile points ), though there could be surprises.
Yes, I'd have thought Dan would be the possible 'weak link' too - which is funny as he's the top seed . . . the French guy may well prove tricky for Liam too . .
For me having a unique insight Marcus is never as competitive v Lewis as he is against other opponents
he loses his competitive edge against Lewis becomes too nice it's more like a social match .
I must say I am becoming increasingly worried about his erratic performances 1 week reaches a final then loses against a relatively low ranked opponent .
i think the initial benefits of improved funding & coaching means now reached a plateau in the singles rankings .
Gary, I think it's really common for friends to have a hard time playing each other.
But if you admit that Marcus never plays as well against Lewis as he does normally then why are you worried ? He's not being at all erratic, in fact he's being consistent - playing well but just never finding it easy to play Lewis.
He had a great match in Spain and made the final here last week - it's not so bad.
However, I agree with you that it's always good to review the plan - improved funding and coaching doesn;t mean that someone will go on up and up the rankings - otherwise anyone could get to number one by just endlessly increasing funding and coaching. But, as you say, people do plateau and need a shake up. In my view, Marcus hasn't had anywhere near enough experience at Challengers - you've got to throw the dice and go for it. He's barely done more than a couple. He's 23 - it's time to get serious.
