Week 37 - Great Britain F16 ($15,000) - Wrexham (Hard)

Unfortunately just to make you all aware George coupland has decided to retire from professional tennis

I wasn't aware of that and never heard any whispers about that whilst I was there.

I liked George, quiet and got on with his business and was just starting to hit form. However I'm guessing it was tough for him financially and at 25 would have struggled to make top 200 and earn enough money to secure a decent wage. Hopefully he has got something sorted out.

I assume the PDF's are not working properly, as they should be well into the next round of matches

Brydan won 6-2 3-6 6-3
Ed won 6-4 4-6 6-2
Liam won 6-2 6-3

Sorry to hear about George - he's been doing well recently too, up over 200 places this year.

I can understand why someone who's 25 and yet to break the top 500 would decide to retire though, especially if he's been able to find something else worthwhile to do that actually pays him something. Pity though.

As George is a US college graduate, I assume he's got a reasonable degree behind him too, which (presumably) helps in thinking about the next step . . .

Thanks for the comments from yesterday Paul, Wrexham is a good tournament to view if the weather is good, and for the most part doesn't feel very Welsh either.

Looks like the PDF's are back up and running and we find out that young Mr. Hudson has created a major upset turning over Dave Rice and Lewis is a set up on his doubles partner

The PDF doesn't seem to be working yet on court 11 - the court in the corner with the grass around it as Dan C's should have started

Alex underway, Marcus into a third set.

A career best ranking scalp for Oliver (it's actually his first top 500 scalp!), upsetting 2nd seed Dave 4-6 6-2 7-5!

Wow !

Poor Dave - he does have a nasty ability to lose from one set up . . .

However, a huge well done to Oliver - saw him play last year - seems a nice bloke - and making the most of his wildcard :)

And Lewis beats Marcus, 6-4 in the third set !!!

Thrilled for him - he's a nice player - never understood why the singles has been such a struggle. (Difficult for friends to play each other though . . .)

Maybe the young lady he has with him this week has had the right influence......

Shame that there we so few people - cannot have been more than a handful of people other than coaches, players and officials.
