If Djokovic goes out could be Wawrinka's best chance to add to his slam total.

Actually, Andy will very likely be WR 10 after Wimbledon.

The only chance of anything different is if Cilic wins the title, in which case Andy will be WR 11.

I updated the "in running" ranking points situation going into the QFs in "The Battle for the Top 3" ( I wish ! ) thread.

I was only able to see bits of the match and some post match stuff. Seems a very bad day at the office, which I just didn't see coming. and obviously Andy will be very disappointed.

I rearranged my entire day to watch the match (and some of the other quarters) and have just got back from the weekly shopping.

Andy seemed to come out flat. Lord knows why (and maybe Andy too, we can't tell how he is feeling). His serving was so poor I was wondering if the back was still an issue. And so many unforced errors - so unlike him. Against a lesser player he could maybe have turned it around, but Dimitrov played really well, and Rasheed's game plan for him was excellent.

Some deep thinking needed from Andy and his team to decide where he goes from here. If he really wants to get back to his best, he should maybe stop concentrating on the slams alone and try to get himself back on track at the start of the US hard court season - he has very few points to defend from here to the end of the year, so maybe he should concentrate on playing well enough to get his ranking back where it was. But with the young guns now starting to make themselves noticed, it may not be easy.

What a contrast to Andy's ultra-professional performance in his four prior matches. It was like he'd just handcuffed himself today. What's the explanation?

Andy was so impressive in his 1st 4 matches, but today his movement was slow, his serve was shocking, and his groundies not much better. A liitle bit similar to his performance last year at the same stage, but this time against a quality opponent he came a cropper.

I was told (admitedly by a non fan) that there was talk that Andy was feeling abit off five minutes before going on court. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

There has been an enormous amount of comment from press, press photographers etc., saying that Andy was unhappy when he came on court.

Frankly, he lost and all the surrounding stuff physical, mental or emotional is irrelevant. He just didn't win.

He played well below his best and he's said that himself, let's hope that whatever went wrong can be addressed I'm looking forward to the US Open.

Several papers report that he yelled out, somewhere the start of the third set, "Five minutes before the (expletive deleted) match!" I've checked my recording and it is not on there, the Beeb must have been showing replays/stats/scores from other courts when that happened.

I certainly think there was an issue and that it effected Andy's start to the match in particular.

Yes, it wasn't in the coverage at the time, but I saw a brief later recording of him looking plaintively at his box and yelling something ( just looking like he often has, more in the past, during matches, but this was in the ruddy warmup ). And Dimitrov said virtually right after the match that he sensed something wasn't quite right with Andy before the start, though he didn't say based on what, and some have said he was maybe looking for something to build his confidence.

Andy has before let some things effect him, to me understandably in at least one case, and I have never accepted that he is too professional to let off court matters affect him, and that's not a criticism.

So, as I indicated, I am afraid that in this case, I personally do think that there is some story there.

Ah, sorry, hadn't read Madeline's post properly.

It was during or at least connected to talk of some rumoured problems at the start that the clip of Andy yelling was shown, so I presumed that this was before the start. But maybe it was later on.

Personally I remain completely baffled over Andy's coaching situation and the decisions that have been made this year.

Well, I never thought Amelie was a good choice and said so, once, when the announcement.

I think she's a wonderful woman, one of the few top French players who was never a 'little princess' but took time to sign all young fans' tennis balls etc. And an excelent player with a huge amount of tennis talent. And appointing a woman is a great thing as a point of principle, to open the way.

But I thought, as a coach, she did a pretty lousy job with Azarenka.

And Amelie, above all, is known for choking - for losing matches horribly that were so well within her grasp that it was embarrassing. Of course, being that talented, she got some good results too. But it's very similar to Sam Stosur - for somebody like her, she should have notched up double the titles. Amelie certainly never really managed to tame her own mental demons - she wouldn't be my choice as someone to help other people tame theirs . . .

I also remember an interview with her when she said that, at home, she has no tennis stuff on display, she never talks tennis, tennis is not part of her 'off court' life. Maybe things have changed (it was a while back) but . . .

Anyway, it is sad if the rest of the team are feeling left out and 'unloved' - Andy is such a 'team' person, it's strange that he would let that happen (assuming it has).

Well I think it would be understandable for Dani to feel somewhat affronted by what has happened. He is the guy who is there with Andy all year round, every tournament he plays and virtually all of his training sessions. It also seems that during the Lendl years, Dani was very much the hands on coach while Lendl was more of a mentor and an occasional strategist. He is very much the guy who is always there to pick up the pieces so if he didn't feel at least a little bit of resentment over Andy bringing in another coach I would be surprised. Not to mention Andy's comments in Madrid or Rome about "missing his coach", I am sure it wasn't a dig at Dani at all but if I were the latter I think I may well have felt a little hurt by it.

Also concerning if Jez Green is really unhappy. He has always struck me as far more that just a fitness trainer to Andy. If you look at him in the players box and the way he reacts during matches he always seems and the person that Andy looks to for encouragement.
