RE: Week 17 - Great Britain F9 ($10,000) - Bournemouth (Clay)

Liam gobbles a bagel against Josh and wins 6-3 6-0.

Really happy for Liam, but what has happened to Josh since his fabulous Challenger efforts at the end of last year ? Was really hoping he would be back up the rankings by now.

Good question - Josh M said he was playing better than his ranking last year, but he just cannot seem to move up to the next level. Same for Neil P.

Luke had at least 1 break point at 4-4*, came through a close service game to hold for 5-5* and has had at least 2 break points in the 11th game of the 3rd set too - he is now just 2/14 on bps to the Pole's 3/7.

As I write that, he gets another bp, takes it and will serve for the match 3-6 6-4 *6-5

Luke serves it out and will play Hänle in the SFs

(non-GB): (6) Gavin van Peperzeel (AUS) WR 568 v Kevin Griekspoor (NED) WR 721 - the 6th seed is a set up
QF: (4) Liam Broady WR 447 beat (7) Josh Milton WR 578 by 3 & 0
QF: Jathan Malik WR 986 lost to Pirmin Hänle (GER) WR 823 (CH 526 in 2009) by 6-2 3-6 6-1
QF: (8) Luke Bambridge WR 609 beat Kamil Majchrzak (POL) WR 796 (CH 789 earlier this month; junior WR 16) by 3-6 6-4 7-5

2 British pounds in the SFs (LBs ... igmc) - more importantly, Luke's win should take him into the ATP singles top 600 for the first time

Poor young Mr Majchrzak has to get himself together again now to play doubles against Brydan & partner. What are the odds on a w/o ?

An all LB final in the singles would be great though. Congrats to both of them at the end of a long day.

Good stuff. Hopefully we can have another Bournemouth final between the LBs ( Luke beat Liam, certainly not for the first time, in the the British Tour final last week ).

I didn't realise that Luke's opponent is a top junior - got to no.8 in the world, so this is a decent effort from Luke

He won a futures events a few weeks back as well on clay

Good stuff from Liam and Luke. Would like to see them both make the final or 1 of them winning at least

OOP suggests playing indoors today - is that indoor clay or hardcourt?
