Interesting, I wonder if the plan is to play Jamie and Dom together or one with Andy? Have Jamie and Dom ever paired up in the past? I confess I'm certainly no doubles expert, but I do wonder if it makes more sense picking 2 players with little to no experience playing together as opposed to an existing partnership in Colin and Johnny. Although it would seem very unfair leaving out Jamie and Dom considering their form this year. Either way that's Leon's decision and I feel we have a great chance going in. Will be interesting to see who America have as no. 2 singles player, but there's no one I'd think Wardy wouldn't have a decent chance against.
totally agree with you Colin Fleming is the best doubles player we have in my opinion he played with Jamie Murray when younger can't see Inglot gelling with either of the Murrays he did not play well on his debut unless he has improved? For me Colin has never let the team down
An american poster on MTF (OK, I know not the most reliable source!) says Donald Young will be the USA #2 singles player. The way it was posted sounded as though it was not just his opinion, but that he had heard it.
Young was a surprise name, I thought it was between Querry, Sock and Johnson, but looking at Young's record this year, he has flown up the rankings with a semi final and a final in the last two weeks. Looking at those matches, it looks like he had a nice set of draws in each.
Sock hasn't played at all yet this year. I had wondered whether they might hesitate with Querrey after last year. Beyond that, there didn't seem much to choose between the two.
Yes, it's on the DC site. American team Isner, Young, and the Bryan bros.
I must say I am delighted by that, and I think Courier has selected wrongly. I would have been quite confident Steve Johnson would have beaten James but I am not sure about Young's temperament under pressure.

Young has been in good form but was routed by Karlovic in the final of Delray Beach, being broken 3 times in 2 sets so I think your point is valid. One also wonders if Querrey might have felt like he had a point to prove after last years' shambles.
With the exception of his run in Memphis, Querrey has not won a Tour-level match all year. And from what I've read about him, he's not a "point to prove" kind of person. Think he would have been a risk. Johnson's having a good year - has run twice into Kevin Anderson and twice into Kei Nishikori, but no shame in losing to those two! Also lost to Karlovic, but has been fairly consistent in making QFs. But Young's played DC before and has just beaten Dolgopolov, Tomic (twice), as well as a slew of other top-150 players. His losses this year are to Raonic, Anderson, Karlovic and Vesely - again, all respectable. I can see the logic in choosing him.
I would assume that the Barmy Army, by the way, would have no more exciting tunes ready for Mr Young than they would for any other player. Why should they?

I think Phil's thinking is Young's sometimes petulant behavior might rub the crowd up the wrong way so they turn (even more) against him.
I'm thinking back to their barracking of Fognini, which actually backfired in the end. If Young can be psyched out by a few windup chants from the SU Barmy Army he could be in trouble.

Taking the mick out of Fognini was incredibly stupid, he can self destruct all by himself but was always likely to respond to getting stick from the opposition camp. Taking the mick out of Donald Young on the other hand strikes me as a pretty good idea.
