Hmm, it looks as if Gasquet also pretty much capitulated to Fed.

I imagine that the French Tennis forum must get rather agitated at times.

Especially as that's their Davis Cup team i.e. Gasquet and Jo-Wilf. With Monfils (maybe, who knows, 'personal problems) and Benneteau.

No doubles guys.

The consensus seems to be they should have sent Gasquet/Tsonga for the doubles, Mahut/Llodra for the doubles, and Gael or ERV 'to peel the potatoes' (I quote . . .)

Of course, it helps that all three main guys in Germany are injured . . .

That has to be some of the most disgraceful umpiring I have ever seen. And typically it ends up costing Murray the set (aided by lack of concentration on his part... although who can blame him).

Just happy to see Andy playing freely and competing well.

Blown it now. Ridiculous to still be harping on about the net thing.

Oh well, at least his back will have a good rest before Davis cup.

If anyone's got a moment, what happened? Just curious - not really important (obviosuly)

Oh, Andy. I really thought the mental strength had improved, but he let that atrocious umpiring call defeat him, rather than Djokovic. The positive thing is that he was competing toe to toe right up to that point, and occasionally afterwards. He MUST learn to put these incidents behind him and concentrate on the rest of the match. I know it's very difficult, but unless he can, he is not going to get much further in his career.

And for heaven's sake stop wasting challenges right at the start of a set on unimportant points!

Ah well. On to the Davis Cup, then get practising on clay - there are a lot of points available to make up during the clay season.

Novak hit the ball before it crossed the net, the umpire got it wrong and Andy got incensed after they replayed it on the big screen

Djokovic hit a volley with his racquet RIGHT over the net. Andy protested, the umpire (and it was right under his nose) claimed that Djokovic had made contact on his own side of the net and followed through. Then there was a replay on the big screen which very clearly showed that the ball was nowhere near crossing the net when it was hit.

I think, Djokovic had contact with the ball when his racquet was over the net, and they actually showed it on the big screen. I think he even admitted it. The Umpire said that although his racquet was over the net the contact was before so it was OK. Never bothered to replay and gave Djoko the point.

Nole hit the ball very close to the net - his racket appeared to go over the net and there was some controversy about whether he'd hit the ball before it went over the net. Unfortunately they played a replay on the big screen, which really did seem to show that he'd hit the ball on Andy's side of the net. Andy wasn't very happy (understandably)... and rather let it get to him.

Just like against Raonic two weeks ago, he goes a break up then completely capitulates. Up until that moment he was playing super stuff. Disappointing how it ended but encouraging week, all things told. NEEDS to build on this now.

But on the positive side, some absolutely sublime tennis at times from Andy, which was really encouraging!

Just saw briefly a clip on the news (didn't have live coverage) and there seemed to be a language problem with the umpire as well ? Andy said (I think) that Novak admitted his racket was OVER the net. The umpire said, "yes it was over the net, but not on the other side of the net".

Nuances of the English language seem to have been missed. Or did I get all this completely wrong.
