L32: (Q) Johanna Konta WR 141 beat (Q) Richèl Hogenkamp NED WR 185 6-3 6-2

No BPs offered up, 7 aces to 2 DFs, over 85% first serve success, over 60% second serve success; 4 BPs converted from 12 generated. If there's such a thing as an efficient, ruthless performance "on paper", this is it. Fantastic Jo!

Joko holds to 15.
And then breaks to 15.
And job done, 6-3 6-2

That's another 30 points to add to the 10, isn't it ? Which should get her to WR 128 or something near ?

Yes, nearly halfway back to her career high already and she has now won 15 of her last 17 matches!

Very convincing scoreline from JoKo - I believe that makes her 2nd on the list of year to date ranking points won by Brits, though partly because Heather is yet to play her 1st round.

Yes, it does - I'd tweet it if it wasn't for the fact it would sound a bit negative towards Hev (*), whose lack of points this year is down to reasons outside her control. Still excellent from JoKo to be closing in on 500 points for this calendar year.

(*) similarly with Jade overtaking Lisa in 2013-only points - an excellent year for Jade, but Lisa's injury is the main reason Jade has overtaken her.

What ranking would we be looking at to get into the Aussie Open main draw ?

...asks he optmistically on behalf of Jo, and a bit worried on behalf of Hev.

Excellent if not unexpected result from Joko and some very valuable ranking points.

I suspect she would give Peer a good game, but Peng may be a step too far.

To get to 110 position in the rankings she would need 590pts, Provisionally she is now on 476pts with not too much to defend until the end of the year. So still a big ask to make Aussie Open main draw. (110 is a guess with injuries and retirements)

Hev is on 825pts, but has 400pts to defend to the end of the year, so would need at least 165pts before the end of the year, which would be 3-5 wins on tour.

There is a reasonable chance that Hev and Joko could switch positions in the rankings before the year is out.

It depends on withdrawals and how many players use special (i.e. protected in ATP-speak) rankings to get in, obviously, but as a guide, the initial cut was 108 this year and it went out to 114.

110 is usually good enough, if I remember right from previous years.

Laura is 2nd match on Centre tomorrow, which thanks to a 2pm local time start isn't too early. Laura should be on around 8:30 - 9:00 BST

Guangzhou is 7 hours ahead of BST.

So if a 2pm local time start and Laura on at say 3.30 to 4 pm, that would be 10.30 to 11 pm BST.
