Wow. When I stopped at the services on the way Andy had lost 1st set so I was fairly resigned to the inevitable result......but plugged in later and saw last few games. AMAZING !!!!!!!!!! (and he won me a tenner off him indoors!!)

Great stuff from Muzz this morning. That's his second bagel against Nadal - but of course the other time it happened (Rotterdam 2009), Rafa had picked up an injury.

This is Andy's 20th ATP singles title, takes his winning streak to 11 including DC, and means that if he retains his title in Shanghai (a very, very big ask after the efforts of the last two weeks), he'll overtake Fed in the rankings - he's already more than 1000 points ahead of him in the race.

And to think some people were worried about him playing singles and doubles this week.

LOL I know, though we did have reason to worry about it after the previous times he's tried o do both this year. I hope it doesn't catch up with him next week. If it doesn't, then his plan to play more or less the whole Asian swing then give himself a break between Shanghai and Paris instead of playing Valencia might turn out to be a good move with the WTF in mind.

They are taking quite a while to start the dubs? More than 'minimal time'. Hope not a w/o

I don't think players really worry about fatigue when they are playing like Andy is at the moment. Playing 2-3 hours a day, or 4 at a push, isn't a big ask from a physical perspective, or at least it shouldn't be for a professional athlete. The problem is more the mental drain of being involved in lots of tight matches, not something that Andy has had to deal with much over the past 2 weeks.

Yes, you're right - you don't often hear players moaning about having to play too much when they keep winning the matches

I would love to see this final set. Did anybody record it?

When was the last time a player won both singles and doubles titles?  I think it must be quite a rare thing. Apologies if somebody has already asked the question....

It has probably been done since in an ATP 250 but for the last one at a higher level than that might well be Nadal (Monte Carlo - 2008)

According to Stu Fraser, Chela was the last player to do the double at any ATP main tour event - Bucharest 2010.

The last player I can find who won the singles title and then the doubles title at the same event with his brother was Andy's old 'headmaster' Emilio Sanchez, who won the singles titles at Kitzbühel 1989 and the doubles title with brother Javier as well.

Was that at 500 level? If not, do you know who the last person was to do it at that level or above?

 Bucharest is an ATP 250.

The ATP 500's have only been existence a few years (under that name) and no one has ever won singles and doubles. Nadal (Monte Carlo - 2008) was the last time it was done at Masters Series level.

Great stuff from Andy.  Seems to have played to a very high level this week, and 4 points for Nadal in set, I'd suggest that hasn't happened a long time !

Missed it all having started yesterday at Rugby / Grand Pricx qualifying time and ended it in the early hours.

What's with all this smiling lately too, even when break points down.

I always said it was great that he was playing doubles as well with Jamie  wink  .  So, that's a partnership for the Aussie Open sorted out  no
