RE: Aberdeen Cup unlikely to continue

You get good appearence money actually. And huge ones in places like Dubai.

And some people out there (Gonzalez, Roddick etc.), participate in deals with tournament authorities where they sign up for tournaments just to sell tickets and then withdraw after some time.

Sorry if you are a Roddick or Gonzalez fan, but I hate the fact that many players treat the crowds like this. They buy tickets to see the stars, not knowing that it had been decided ages ago that they won't turn up.

Is it just the top 10-20 players who get appearance money or do rising stars like Andy [when he was outside the top 20] and Monfils get appearance money aswell ??

Is there any appearance money in challengers, to try and get top 100 players to
participate. For example, I wonder if the Dnepropetrovsk tournament gave Tursunov some dosh to get him to play there as he's such a big personality now.

That's disgraceful regarding Gonzalez and Roddick exploiting the fans in that way Where did you read about that...mtf ? I think that some of the players forget that without the fans, they wouldn't be able to make a living out of playing pro tennis.

I think that all the pre contracted players get appearence money. As far as I know, they don't make it public, so we won't get to know.

I read about the Roddick one of MTF. I found Gonzo's story myself.
He was due to play in Bombday and I used to check the official sites and stuff of all the big names myself every few days. Ages before Bombay, Gonzo announced that it wasn't a part of his schedule. I was like.....

No idea about Challengers, but Dnepropetrovsk, Szczecin and a few others can certainly afford it.
I'm pretty sure that Dima didn't take money. He wanted practice for the Davis Cup tie.

Appearence money in Slams and Masters are illegal I believe.

And it's not just such cases. People like Fed and Nadal toy with fans all the time.

As we all know, this was Fed's indoors schedule -
Madrid, Basel, Paris in back to back weeks and then Shanghai.

Nadal's was a bigger joke -
Stockholm, Madrid, Basel, Paris in back to back weeks and then Shanghai.

Honestly.... when was the last time Fed played three weeks of tennis continuously? He always knew that he wasn't going to turn up. Just didn't withdraw earlier to keep the organisers happy.

Nothing like intelligent discussion - and that was nothing like intelligent discussion.

And don't bother sending me another offensive PM badboy, I won't even read it.

Edit - just for clarity, that was in response to the abusive message by yesyesbadboy which has now been deleted, not the excellent discussion remaining above!

I'm getting them too...it's brilliant! I suppose I could report him for abusive PMs, but then he'd only report me for my responses.

Touche!

I apologise to everyone who received yesyesbadboy's abusive messages.....

Yesyesbadboy, this is your final warning....if you post one more abusive message on this site or send abusive spam to members via pm or email, I will ban your IP so you won't be able to view this site again.

By the way, in response to the one comprehensible sentence in the post you made in this thread last night [which I've deleted], Andy Murray does actually read this site I know that for sure and he finds it interesting, especially all the information we post about the British players.
