Looking at those fields, if he is fit again i think he can cover his Washington (and Newport) points (140+75=215) at LA and Indy. I think he's a decent bet for that US Open Series thing as he's improved a lot since last year.
I think he hates Newport - I'm sure he slagged off the courts there last year? Could be mistaken but I think there was a problem with the bounce or something that he didn't like?
lol, he's slagged off the courts there over the past two years First year (2005) he got in big trouble with the tournament director for dissing the courts big time to the press after a rd2 loss to Dupuis, as he was a wc and the guy said that Andy had no right to say such things after getting a wc.
There are pretty bad tho, the bounce makes it impossible to play baseline tennis, you have to serve-volley all the time
Even if they had the best courts in the world, there wasn't much chance that he would have played a small tournament like this which is scheduled right after Wimbly.
Does anybody have any idea of Andy's schedule for the rest of the year? He is not on the entry lists for week 37 (Bangkok) or 39 (Mumbai). 38 will be the DC week I expect.
Always assuming he is fit to play of course, but I would have thought he would at least have entered one or other of those tournaments, even if he had to withdraw later.
I tried to find it on his official site and failed. The link that Arka posted earlier now just shows a blank page. . .
He might not want to be switching surfaces to go from hard to grass back to hard again. Might be for the best. I'm guessing he'll have a pretty full schedule after the DC though.
In his post-match press conference Andy said that he was definately not playing in Asia after the DC, he felt it was a bad mistake last year. Next tourney is Moscow, then Madrid, St Petersburg and Paris to end the season.
I guess that as aria says, it would be a big surface switch from the DC to Bangkok plus Andy's not going to be particularly well prepared due to the jetlag. Then Tokyo is quite a switch too...you go from fast indoor stuff in Thailand to medium paced hard in Japan. Its all quite a strain on the body in just a few weeks
He should have a good chance in Moscow and St Petersburg which are quite weakish tourneys compared to the other atps in Vienna and Basel then. They're on indoor carpet...Rusedski made the finals of both a couple of years ago...it's super-fast.
