30-0, Jamie intercepts Katie's return and hits a winner. good volley.
40-0, Acuks return long.
Bally so far wide in her serve that she nearly hits Aucks! Apologises.
40-15, Jamie moves for the intercept too soon and Katies slams the return winner down the line..
game Scotland. Jamie and Aucks demonstrate what it means to be good doubles players catching balls from up in the air in all sorts of strange positions! A good rally, and Aucks is forced into the error.
5-3

Oh well, England well and truly trounced now. I did think we might have won that match. And now I turn traitor again to support Andy against Greg..... which I think has a new thread.

Maybe Aucks was just relieved that his participation this weekend is now over, he must be pretty knackered !!!
It's been a great comeback for Elena this weekend ! The fast courts have really suited her.
Bethan and Drew, what do you think gave Scotland the edge in that match ? Did Jamie and Bally just return slightly better do you think or was a case of England not taking their chances ?
From the sound of things, Jamie and Bally just played superbly on the key points eg in that tiebreak, some flashy winners really changed things around and they played some great stuff in the 2nd set when they broke Katie after she let them back in with a double fault.

I think it was partly Bally's serve, she was much more confident on it than Katie was on hers and that affected the rest of Katie's game.
I also think that Jamie was slightly looser than Aucks, perhaps because he was safe in the knowledge that Scotland had already won. Also, Aucks attempted quite a few hard volleys that he netted, whereas I don't remember any of the others doing the same, I think Jamei and Elena (and Katie as well) were content to play the percentage shots and wait for their chances.

Drew wrote: Had a chat with James McKie (Scotland junior) and seems a nice young lad who has decided to shun a rugby career for tennis. Was trained by Judy when she was the Scotland coach. As the Scotland no 1 U16 he is supported by Tennis Scotland. He knows of Dan Cox and thinks he is some talent. He also holds James Chaudry in high esteem "top player in the uk for his age".
Good to see that Dan is thought of as a talented player by McKie.

Interesting stuff, thanks for that. I hadn't heard of him before, he sounds to be a good prospect, hopefully we'll see him in some futures qualies in the next couple of years - maybe next year for the Scottish Open in Edinburgh on clay in May.
I don't think Greenleaf will agree with McKie about Chaudry being the best English U16 Greenleaf, how would you rate Chaudry compared to Faris Akhazzen out of interest ?
I hadn't heard of McKie before either. He doesn't play in Europe, so we can't really judge him by looking at his rankings and results.
I was pretty sure that Chaudry would win this match. His career so far has been pretty good for a Junior. Either McKie has immense potential or else Chaudry was simply dazed by the occasion.
It could be that McKie was speaking about the best British 15 year old who plays in Britain. Akhazzan is just four months older than Chaudry, but has been reaching quarters of G4s for over a year now, so he must be considered as a better prospect. We have a serious lack of good 14-15 year olds.
