I will try and get a hold of Jamie Murray as soon as I can....i have my list of questions for Andy...going to use my new found status and give it to Jamie hoping that Andy scribble down quickly some answers....!
Please post here for the matches...other than Andy v Greg 'The Return'....new thread for that later.
Had a chat with James McKie (Scotland junior) and seems a nice young lad who has decided to shun a rugby career for tennis. Was trained by Judy when she was the Scotland coach. As the Scotland no 1 U16 he is supported by Tennis Scotland. He knows of Dan Cox and thinks he is some talent. He also holds James Chaudry in high esteem "top player in the uk for his age".
OOP for tonight :
5.00pm Murray / Murray (Sco) v Auckland / Rusedski (Eng) - (2 sets with CTB) 6.00pm McKie / Steel (Sco) v Chaudry / James (Eng) - (4 games, next point wins) 7.00pm Murray / Baltacha (Sco) v Auckland / Obrien (Eng) 8.00pm Rusedski (Eng) v Murray (Sco)
The promoters are hoping the first 3 matches go to England (Score would be 3 - 3.5)
They have not fixed this please believe me
That would set up a nice final match...which Andy wins of course
Has there been a pre-match PC with the players, was that where you spoke to McKie ?
Interesting stuff, thanks for that. I hadn't heard of him before, he sounds to be a good prospect, hopefully we'll see him in some futures qualies in the next couple of years - maybe next year for the Scottish Open in Edinburgh on clay in May.
Scottish juniors have an easier time funding-wise than their English equivalents as while English juniors just get LTA funding; top Scottish juniors get funding from LTA, Tennis Scotland and Sport Scotland which helps a lot.
I don't think Greenleaf will agree with McKie about Chaudry being the best English U16 Greenleaf, how would you rate Chaudry compared to Faris Akhazzen out of interest ?
The doubles match will be very interesting, hmmm, a hard one to call. I guess that I have to go with the Murray brothers to win in straights with the Scottish support and the fact that Aucks and Greg have never played together before. The natural understanding between the Murrays will surely help a huge amount.
There could also be problems for Aucks and Greg as both like to play on the ad court. One's going to have to play in a position which he's not used to. My guess is that Aucks will be the one who moves to the deuce court for this match.
I wonder how much of an adjustment that is for the pros, maybe you could ask, Drew ? At club level, players swop and play different sides all the time but maybe it's a problem for the pros, in getting into the rhythm of returning from a different side
