RE: ATP Doha 2007.

Awesome result for Baker. Dolgopolov began 2006 with just 1 ranking point, but has come this far in just twelve months time. Looks like training with Brad was really helpful for Jamie. Maybe this is the start of big things for him...

I reckon that he will beat Bastl. Bastl's results have been disappointing at times in the last years. He even lost to Yuichi Sugita. Talented as Sugita is (he beat Dan at Osaka Mayor's ), he was ranked outside the top 500 at that time.
I think that Jamie has an outside chance of qualifying. It's really difficult to beat higher ranked players three times in a row, but let's see....

There is a delicious match up between qualifiers in the main draw that Baker would like to become a part of.

Interesting doubles draw, Andy has unfinished business with both Warwinka and Bagdatis. It would be good to get revenge on both at the same time.

That's a fabulous win for Jamie Baker Dolgopolov is a very dangerous player as he showed at the end of the 2006 season, beating two top 100 guys in straight sets. Jamie did really well to come back after getting outplayed in set 2.

Jamie will be gaining loads from working with Brad and Andy, hopefully that will pay off this season.

Bastl will be tough but it's the best section of the draw Jamie could have hoped for. The 31 year old Swiss is ranked 173, Jamie has beaten guys of similar rankings in the past. In 2006, Bastl played mainly ATPs, he qualified for most of the ones he entered but didn't get past rd2 in any. He only played a few challengers, made 1 quarter-final. He's a serve-volleyer, Jamie does have a good record against them.

Great win for Jamie Murray aswell, maybe he's going to start playing singles qualies for the ATPs and challengers he enters when he can, as extra match practise. Cakl's ranked 185, been in the top 150. He had his best results indoors in the 2006 season, reaching 2 challenger finals, 2 semis and qualifying for ATP Zagreb. He beat both Jamie Baker and Josh Goodall during the season.

Unfortunately, like yesterday, Doha are spreading the qualies matches over 8 courts and live scoreboard is only doing 2 So we'll have to wait till about 4pm to get the results

I wonder if the final qualies round is being played today aswell as all rd2 matches will have finished by 2pm Doha time.

The matches are being plyed as we post, but Livescores aren't working.

Edit: USM beat me to it.

It's just doubles and Andy left to follow this week However, Jamie Baker came within a point of making the final qualies round against Bastl which was a superb effort.

Rd2 qualies:

G Bastl [Swi][4] bt J Baker [GB] 4-6, 7-6[7], 6-2

T Cakl [Cze][5] bt J Murray [GB] 6-1, 6-4

Gutted for Jamie B but hopefully he will gain confidence from coming so close aggainst a much more experienced player. I think he will do well this year.

It's good to see Jamie M having a go at playing singles I hope he will keep doing that in 2007.
