So many pesimists here....eng may loose but it wil be closep than folk think !

i agree, i think England will up their level for the ashes matches, i mean hardly anyone really expected them to win last time did they?

Thats not true. The england side that won the ashes last time were in great form winning so many test series and Aussies werent at there dominating best. Theyve gotten better since last year and England have probably (im pretty certain they have) weakened in the bowling department (Flintoff hasnt got miles under his belt, Harmison is hit and miss, anderson/Mahmood have yet to prove themselves,  hoggard is a bit quiet and i can only think of Panesar as being a highlight in the bowling dept as things stand - we REALLY need harmison at his West Indies crushing best!!)

With less than 3 hours to go the majority of us have voted for England retaining the ashes, but most comments expect us not to!

Weird!

I cannot express how excited I am!

I think it all depends on how well England start. Ponting doesn't play as well when he's having to think about the captaincy. Hopefully we'll restrict him to one big innings in the series

Well there's his big innings!

Q: How do you get it into the head of one of the best bowlers in the world that he's one of the best bowlers in the world? Harmison is so fragile in the mind.

Before the doom and gloom merchants come on here, remember they've only played one day of a whole test series.

Go England!

i think this one is down the pan then lads. from right now we have to play for a draw in this test, will will have to bat out for 3 days, cause i think we'll need a follow on. and warn hasnt even bowled yet - did u see the size of those cracks.

I'm actually quite excited by how excited and braggy the Aussie fans are getting because I don't believe England can be this consistently bad for the whole series!

We could well spring up and bite them on the ass again, like we did last time!

However, it does look like this first test at the Gabba is a goner.

How serious is Brett Lee's little injury he picked up colliding with the guy who caught Strauss?

its day 4 and aus r still batting - they are 650 runs ahead of us!! the longer they bat the more pressure on them to stop us getting the draw?? i guess they are confident of bowling us out. wouldnt supirse me if they cand get us out in a day.

oh they have declared as langer got his 100. 647 ahead. i think we can bat that up in short order.

basicly 10-11 hours batting required from us.

We can do this.
It's no use giving up hope. They may as well as stop playing.

Come on England and Wales.

finally england show some spine! england finish the day 293-5. They are more than likely to lose but have restored some self respect. I think they needed bell to stay in cos he could have grinded out a long innings i reckon, shame he's out for a duck. At teh crease we ahve KP and Gojo, maybe geraint can justify his selection with a sterling innings tomorrow otherwise we only have Gilo to support Pietersen. I doubt england will reach 450 though, with warney bowling on teh 5th day. I hope to be proven wrong. (Btw the target is 647, only another 354)
