ATP Baslw - A Murray v J Del Potro

No idea what this guy is like but is a wild card.  How 'wild' remains to be seen ! *LOL*

Could someone add the usual predictions etc. and make it 'sticky'.

Should be a gift to Andy but they are the MOST dangerous!

Getting next load of cushions in....  Phew!!!!

Far from a gift. Del Potro got a wild card but was next on the list of alternates if anybody else should have withdrawn. Into the top 100 at only 17, he is widely considered a star of the future. Could be very tricky for Andy.

This is a very tough draw foir Andy. he is rated as one that will be up there with Andy and Nole. Possible 3rd round with Gonzalez as well which is very tough. Decent draw for Tim.

first of all gonzalez has to play a qualifer, who would be used to the courts, so its not going to be easy for him either.

secondly, if murray does get pass del potro, then he may play mardy fish or the boring bastl. Dont the swiss have any up and coming players to give wildcards instead of bastl whos nearlt retiring!

Del Potro is going to win a grand slam one day. The kid is going to be a great player - he's a big server already and he's really tall for his age. he's only just turned 18 and he's already beat guys like Moya, Ginepri and Chela this year.

If Andy doesn't serve well, or his head isn't right, then he could very easilly go out to him.

Oh yes! This guy is going to be a real star. I saw him play against Moya and I was really amazed. He did everything right that day, served well, was good from the baseline and hit a few kung fu style volleys that were a real treat.

I reckon that he isn't that good on the fast surfaces at this moment. But he is a fast learner. He was rebuked to some extent for not getting the results on hard courts, but he responded by winning in Segovia.

It'll be interesting to see what he does next year, especially on South American clay, where the fields are weaker compared to Europe.

That wouldn't be overly surprising considering what he was saying last week. I suppose showing up and accidentally spraining something in training would be easier than taking the fine and the rap on the knuckles for being a no show.

Can't see anything about it on SteveG so I guess we'll need to wait and see if it's true or not.

RE: ATP Basel - A Murray v J Del Potro

Taken from Brad Gilbert's site:

10.23.2006 -

We’re here in Federer’s home town of Basel. Unluckily my guy is fighting a bit of a sore throat and hasn’t been able to hit a ball since Madrid. Last week was a little unfortunate, Andy was up a set and break and didn’t take care of business, but it was a good learning experience, next time he will keep the pedal down. His first round match here is against the 6’7 Argie Juan Martin Del Potro, you may not have heard about this kid yet but he’s a real up and comer.
