RE: Andy Murray vs. Ivan Navarro Pastor

Murray 5-*4 Now would be a great time to break

0-15 Navarro stays back on his second serve and a long rally ends with his error

0-30 Bullet return, amazing lightning reactions from Navarro to get the volley but Murray just guides the winner down the line

15-30 More quick reactions from Navarro to keep him in the match

30-30 Murray tries to lob and the ball is wide. Big point this next one.

30-40 Murray sets up match point with a great return into feet once more.

Deuce OH MY! Navarro gets a net cord at match point down. Murray is frustrated.

Ad Navarro Great first serve out wide. Murray roars his disapproval.

Deuce Another great lob from Murray. If you aren't watching this, hard to say how well Murray's lobbing. 5 attempts, 4 of them absolutely sweet and point winners.

Ad Murray After a long rally, Navarro just seems to get frustrated and inexplicably goes wild on a backhand down the line. It was wide and sets up a second match point for Murray

GSM Murray 6-2 6-4 A fitting end to the match with a super passing shot from Murray leaving Navarro stranded. Well done Andy!

no , unfortunately they are not, shame really all those sexy birds

I must admit that I was disappointed with some of them in the looks department, you would have thought that the organisers could have selected a few more stunners.

On a more serious note...Murray has a 2nd match pt

6-2 6-4! A comprehensive win for Andy Murray!

Serve dipped to 46% in second set which is probably why Navarro-Pastor got another couple of games!

Good news for Boggo as well becasue this keeps the Spaniard behind him!

Overall a brilliant combinaiton of lobs shots, power backhand at basline and forehands i haven't seen him hit before. A brilliant powerful and well mixed placed serve. i think only 2 drop shots in the whole game as he didnt need it as navarro came to the net alot. brilliant tactics-- and SOME OUTRAGEOUS LOBS

Perhaps whoever it was was confused and meant Ivan Ljubicic. . .

Despite my title of "Mrs Pessimism" I am not guilty - I threw caution to the winds and voted for Andy in 2.

Do we think Ivan (ljubo) will nick it or can Andy spring an upset?

Thank's for the point-by-point commentary john, it brings it alive for me when I can't watch it.

Excellent result from Andy. Sounds like he's comfortable and found his form again. I think it may be able to cause an upset against Ljubicic but i not holding out very much hope.

I think on outdoor murray would beat Ivan L. most times but indoor carpet hardcourt is his best surface. I watched ivan against gonzalez on eurosport in vienna final and he destroyed him.. too much power for gonzo and gonzo looked weak. But today was diff, wsnt really always from baseline but mainly murray at baseline and navarro at the net.

I think ivan will reach the final this week and if the draw permits play federer. But hopefully andy will do the bizz say wednesday is it

Full stats:

Murray: 3 aces, 2 dfs. 1st serve: 60% [75% in set 1 but it dropped to 46% in set 2 as he started to get frustrated]. He won 87% pts on 1st serve and 55% on 2nd serve. Faced just 1 bp which he saved

Navarro Pastor: 5 aces, 1 df. 1st serve: 64%. Won 65% pts on 1st serve and 38% on 2nd serve.

Andy took 3/6 bps.

Many thanks to John for the excellent commentary, really brought the match to life Will you be around for the Henman match tonight ?

Yesyesbadboy and John: The Beeb say that Andy's got a new service action which his helping him get a higher percentage in, did you notice that ? From reading the commentary, he definately seemed to be getting more cheap points off his serve today than usual.

During the Davis Cup, I noticed that Andy was coming into the net so much more than in the past, and that definately seems to have been the case today, lots of points where he's finished things off at the net, and mixing it up and serve-volleying aswell.

It's great that Andy is starting to up the power levels from the baseline, he's got a lot of power at his disposal but so often in the past in matches he hasn't utilised it. That was the case in the US Open against Gonzo, once he started to really go for it and attack from the baseline, Gonzo had no answer.
