Davis Cup: GB v Holland

John, when are you going up to Birmingham ?

Drew's flying in on the Friday morning and so he'll miss the Thursday press conference and draw. I wondered if you would be around to attend the Thursday press conference for britishtennis.net on Drew's behalf ?

Chaps, I expect you to be showing off the site to the LTA and to the other journos:

If we can do a good update of futures and challengers news the night before/that morning, and show it to them, they'll hopefully be very impressed, and will want to (a) link to us (b) write about the site

we need links!! - we need traffic!!

Unfotunately, that's very unlikely. I have the Friday off work because it's a bank holiday but I will be working the Thursday and I have no holidays left to take. Well, I have one day but I'm keeping that to go to Queen's

Hmmm.

I'm not sure how wise this is, Greg does not look to be covering himself in glory in the Sarajevo challenger - if MTF has it correctly, he lost in straights. Ok the Holland players are only challenger level, but still . . . But then, none of the Brits bar Andy are exactly shining brightly at the moment.  Jamie Baker perhaps, but Boggo, Bloomers and Goodall all seem to be out of form at the moment.

I suppose Greg deserves it as a reward for past services.  Maybe the playing for the country will bring out the best in him again.

to be frank I'm slightly worried about his fitness. 5 set matches are tough at the best of times but when he's only played one match in months?

Oh well, I hope he does play well and gets a nice send off but this should be the last time he plays Davis Cup if he's not planning to come back to the tour full time.

It's very unlikely that Greg will be playing a live rubber...Murray and Henman should give us a 2-0 lead on day 1 (particularly with Sluiter not playing and I don't think that Haase has the ability yet to trouble Henman over 5 sets even if Henman does have an Indian Wells-type shocker) and then it'll probably be the Murrays wrapping things up on the Saturday.

Greg will probably get a dead rubber. Part of me would prefer Jamie Baker to be in the team but then again Greg has been fantastic for British tennis over the past decade and fully deserves his send-off. It looks very unlikely that he's going to return to the tour, if I hadn't known he was playing Sarajevo I would have assumed he was already enjoying his post-retirement celebrity lifestyle given his appearances on chat shows and the audiences of shows like Dancing on Ice so far this year. I hope that when he decides to make the retirement announcement it allows him to play the grass season, would be great to see him at Wimbledon one last time....an Agassi style send-off.

Btw, Holland's top doubles specialist is Roger Wassen (he's top 50)...he was the partner of Chris Haggard when Murray and Henman hammered them 6-3, 6-0 earlier this week ! What a psychological blow for the Brits given that Wassen's going to be Holland's biggest chance of winning a rubber next month.

you mean a psychological blow for the Dutch right?! Otherwise I'm not sure I quite understand the rules of Davis Cup yet!

This always happens to GB when they are strong favourites.

I can see us losing this tie now
