Mackin got to final qualy round last year losing to Vliegen but beat Cilic and Koubek and lost to Baghdatis in main draw as LL.

Was it here that Henman and Murray first played?

Lee's match was due on court at 08.00 BST so should have finished by now, but the Basel site is next to useless - no live scoring, and it says the TV schedule will be published 30 days before the tournament but it still isn't there, and so on.

I wonder why Nadal pulled out of Basel, since Wimbledon his results have been very disappointing for his standards, he hasn't been past the quarters. He could have done with a few more matches indoors. Maybe he feared getting a mauling from Fed, in Roger's home town

Great to see Lee Childs going for ATP qualifying. With three ATPs this week, I was hoping that a Brit would go for qualies for one of them. If he doesn't make it through, he'll probably regret not going for Nottingham though where he would have got a wc now Mackin's got direct entry.

It's a shame he managed to pick the one ATP this weekend which doesn't have qualifying live scores

I reckon he's got a good chance against Burgsmuller. Indoors, Lee is a lot, lot better than his ranking, he came close to beating Dick Norman a few weeks ago. Burgsmuller has been in the top 100 but is now 163. So far this autumn, he's lost in rd2 of Orleans and Kolding. He qualified for Bangkok but lost in 3 sets to Dancevic in rd1, got into Tokyo as a lucky loser and beat Arthurs in rd1 before losing to Nieminen

Yeah, the BBC televised the match and Andy Castle memorably described it as like "red wine v alcopops."

Unfortunately Childs got "Burgsmullered"

Lars won 6-3, 6-1

Match stats:

Lee's serving let him down today, only at 52%. He served no aces and 5 doubles. He won 67% of the pts on his 1st serve but just 18% on 2nd serve.

Burgsmuller's serve was on fire. He served at 63%, won 86% pts on 1st serve and 41% on 2nd serve. He hit 8 aces and 3 double faults.

Lee made 20 winners: 17 service winners and 3 backhand winners

Burgsmuller made 38 winners: 26 service winners, 6 forehand winners and 6 backhand winners.

Both made 13 unforced errors.

Lee took 1 of 2 bps and Burgsmuller converted 5/8 chances.

Basically, Lee didn't serve as well as he needed to and Burgsmuller blasted him off the court.
