From the interview with Lloyd after the DC at the weekend it sounded like he disregards the doubles rankings and doesn't think they count for much. Which is slighly bizarre and not very encouraging for our doubles specialists looking to be in the DC. He also said that Andy and Delgado gel together well as a team, not sure where he got that from because it certainly wasn't the case in the match.
I know, I couldn't believe it when he said that there was a problem as Britain didn't have that many good doubles player coming through apart from a few journeymen. What sort of message is that going to send to guys like Auckland, Delgado, Murray, Lee, Goodall, Marray and Hutchins who have won a sackful of challenger and futures titles this year and have all made massive strides. I don't think Lloyd follows the challenger tour at all.
Andy and Delgado definately didn't gel well as a team which wasn't surprising given that they'd only played once before. Lloyd should have chosen an established pair. Andy and Jamie may both be quality doubles players and they may have practised together throughout the week but there's no substitution for playing matches together as a pair.

Jamie Delgado is Auckland's regular doubles partner, they've played the majority of their doubles tournaments with each other. Auckland has also had the most success with Andy so far [though of course that could change this week].
There's a lot at stake for Jamie as if he starts doing really well with Andy, not only will he move into the top 100 and higher, he'll also be almost guaranteed a DC live rubber
I have to call you on this one, UBF. It depends how you define "majority". He has admittedly played more with Delgado than anybody else, but only 5 out of 17 Tournaments.
Jamie Delgado 5 - 1 GS 1 IS, 3 Ch Andy Murray 3 - 2 GS, 1 IS Richard Bloomfield 3 - 2 Ch 1 Fu Lee Childs 2 - 2Fu Paul Capdeville 1 - 1 Ch Jonny Marray 1 - 1 Ch Jeroen Masson 1 - 1 Ch Largs Bergsmuller 1 - 1 IS
I wouldn't call that regular in comparison with Bjorkman/Mirnyi, the Bryan Bros etc!
Well I thought that he'd played with Delgado more times than with anyone else but for some reason I thought that they'd played a lot more tournaments together this year.
Jamie Murray on their rd1 win:
"So we pulled through in the doubles yesterday..i was psyched! we won 3-6 7-6 and then 10-0 in the deciding tie break! I don’t think I could do that again if I tried! I thought we played pretty well but never got the breaks we deserved…I would have been very disappointed to lose as we were a better team than them but thats the way it can go with the new scoring system in doubles…"
"Andy said that they got off to bad start - first 3 games went to deuce - i.e next point wins…they lost all 3! Second set went with serve to the breaker where they went 5-3 up then fell behind again and saved a matchpoint with a smash from Jamie followed by a smash from Andy. Then they stormed the deciding breaker 10-0…….Andy said he played really well and could only remember missing one volley all match - a tricky pick up volley. Jamie got better and better as the match went on and volleyed particularly well in the deciding breaker.”
