RE: Murray/Delgado v Ukraine pair

I was able to see most of the match, dashing off at times to see to chores. I agree that our pair do not "gel" well together. Frankly I think, although Jamie was the weaker of the two generally, that Andy does not play doubles well. It does not suit his style; he likes to work for a point, but that does not work when there is somebody else on the same side of the net who sort of "gets in the way". That sounds harsher than I meant it, but I can't think how else to phrase it! I am wondering if some of the apparently rather lack-a-daisical play on Andy's part is because he is just not temperamentally suited to doubles play.

If Lloyd keeps up his promise to give the younger players a chance next year (and I don't actually think he will have much choice in that!), I hope he goes for a specialist doubles pair to give Andy a day's break between singles.

I agree with Madeline - it must be pretty frustrating when you are a guy who likes to craft points and suddenly there is someone else there who isn't on the same page as you and can't do the things you would normally do. Andy's game is probably never going to translate well on a doubles court unless he plays his more attacking net game which is still very much in the transition phase.

One of the match reports says that the problem with what is going on in DC now is that we have to watch that Andy doesn't get dragged down to the level of the guys he's playing with, and instead hope that the guys he's playing with raise their level to meet him.

I think today was a prime example of him playing alongside a guy who, with all due respect to Jamie, isn't on the same level talent wise and him not having the experience or knowledge of how to overcome that without getting frustrated at his own game because of it. We already know that Andy's not a great doubles player - although he is trying to play more doubles to improve that, and it's times like that where you hope the experienced doubles player would take control and lead by example. That's why I believe Auckland should have been in the team - him and Andy have experience with each others games, they play doubles a fair bit and they get on really well.

No excuses for getting broken twice on double faults though - although that goes back to the whole serving issue he has in his singles game as well so it would be naive to think he wouldn't have the same problems in doubles considering how often he gets broken normally.

I have to agree that Andy playing DC doubles in future will be a bad idea. Far better he concentrate on singles, let face it if Andy and his partner cant beat that Ukranian pair, they won't beat many DC partnerships.  Andy did not have the intensity that he showed in his first DC doubles match, and we we all know his game is not particularly suited to doubles. Its far more important to keep him fresh and eager for his second singles. It would be interesting to hear Brad and Lundgren's thoughts on this.

We are very lucky that Greg pulled out a fantastic win for us yesterday, which means we are still very strong favourites. Is Greg playing today?  I imagine he'll openly play if it is a live rubber, I don't know what the oop is. Maybe that was his last pro match - a pretty good one to go out on!
