RE: ATP Tokyo

First post updated with withdrawals/replacements to date. No fewer than 10!

Make that 11 - Kiefer is out, replaced by Berrer!

It's been confirmed that Andy and Jamie will play doubles together in Tokyo aswell this week.

After their rd1 doubles win Andy said “Jamie’s on the verge of breaking into the top 100 [in doubles] already,” the British No 1 said. “We’ll play in Tokyo next week and possibly again before the Australian Open.”

Hopefully Auckland and Delgado will be in the doubles draw aswell

I'll start a new thread for the rd1 doubles match, it's a shame Auckland and Delgado aren't in there

The singles draw has been released and it's great news for Andy. He's seeded 4th and has a rd1 bye and then faces either Robin Vik or Jiri Novak in rd2 [both are Czechs]. Novak could be tricky, he's been out injured for a while but returned earlier this year and did well at the US Open. I think Andy will be hoping that Vik wins. Andy's seeded to play Benjamin Becker in rd3, if he can tame the Becker serve then he should win that one, Becker hasn't got much from the baseline.
In the quarters he's seeded to face Jarkko Nieminen who he beat in the Toronto quarters.

Henman has a rd1 bye and then faces either Frank Dancevic or Brazilian Marcos Daniel in rd2. He's seeded to play Robby Ginepri in rd3, which he'll be pleased about, he has a winning record against Ginepri.

That can't be right: Tim always meets Federer or Murray in the first couple of rounds.

Jiri Novak won Tokyo last year.  He beat Taylor Dent in the final in an odd looking final line-up.
(What's happened to Dent btw? I've not seen his name for ages.)

Dent suffered a recurrence of a back injury which has been troubling him for many years in Rotterdam in February. He had to pull out of his rd2 match there. He had surgery on the back in May and is currently still recuperating.

He's had lots of problems with his back, wrist and with trapped nerves. It's due to his unusual service action.

I got it wrong, Novak won it in 2004, not last year.  Wesley Moodie actually won it last year , beating Ancic in the final.
(ATP are showing the 2004 draw, not 2005.)
