Murray serving at 6-3 1-2
15-0. Nice work. Gonzo is always on the backfoot in the rally and presents an easy putaway for andy.
15-15. Its the same as the previous pt but andy's volley is pretty poor and goneza hits a superb cross court passing shot
15-30. brilliant forehand winner to the corner. Very aggresive.
30-30. Gonzo steps out wide on a second serve and is maybe a little too aggressive as he nets. he then blames his shoe and duly ties his laces.
40-30. Good winner down the line
GAME. Same as the point for 30-30 but this time he blames his racket instead of his shoes.

Gonzo's not serving that powerful: avg 105 mph at the mo - Andy's higher...


Gonzo does hit his serve with loads of topspin, maybe he's taking the pace off the serve to put even more topspin on it and force Andy further back for the return and open the court up.

However, it hasn't worked particularly well so far, he's been broken 3 times

That is exactly what's happening. Andy is being forced wide due to the topspin but he is seeing it early and stepping out wide to try and take the initiative. its working well.

i think he had 140 somethingmph vs henman in cincinatti (i was there)

132 mph - somewhere during the 1st set. Gonzo was at 120mph during the first, but has now caught up to also be 132...

0-15. Gonzo rips a peach of a forehand winner.
15-15. Brilliant first serve sets up a smash. Andy does well to keep his concentration
15-30. Lovely forehand winner has Andy sprawling on the floor .
30-30. Not for the first time gonzo goes for WAY too much and makes another unforced error, dumping his forehand into the net.
40-30. Gonzo catches the top of the net
GAME. Good serve sets up an easy smash. A good hold there. 6-3 3-3

15-0. Murray nets.
30-0 a brilliant forehand to the corner looks to have won the pt but gonzo produces and even better shot trying to pass andy on the run off that shot and andy nets
30-15. error from Gonzo
40-15. error from murray
40-30. error from gonzo.
Game. You've guessed it - error from murray! 6-3 3-4

I'm now listening to this on sportsextra

Andy's been hitting some exquisite drive volleys, apparently he hits them really cleanly with loads of topspin.

He hit a rather bizarre 1st serve into bottom of net. Jeff Tarrango said that they used to try to do that right at the end of a match, 3mps down and if you could get the ball under the net then you had the moral victory !!!

Commentators feel that if you can make Gonzo hit 2 or 3 big shots then he usually makes an error.

0-15. Double fault.
0-30. A decent deep volley but Gonzo produces a superb running pass tjat gpes around andy!
0-40. Murray goes wide with the forehand - it think it might have deflected off the net
15-40. Good serve and Gonzo's return is long, 2 more like that please
GAME. Magnificent forehand winner and gonzalez will serve for the second set. 6-3 3-5
