Early in the match, Murray had chances to break the formiddable Roddick serve, but Roddick survived, and then never looked back. If Murray could've broken, I reckon he would've won, but after the early scares, Roddick started to play the sort of tennis which an in-form Federer would find tough to cope against, oh well.
Disappointing that he went out like that, but what a fantastic three weeks for Andy. He looked by far the better player until he was broken in the first set, but after that Roddick upped his game and basically just bossed him around. He served so well that Andy didn't get a look in and I think that was probably pretty demoralising for him and the passing shots just didn't really have the same bite to them as usual. The footwork was pretty poor as well at times. Credit to Roddick though - it was a good performance by him.
I just hope no one makes too much of his shouting during the match - players get frustrated, I really doubt it means a whole lot once they get off court.
I was too tired to stay up, but woke up at 3.30 am and couldn't get back to sleep until I had checked.
Oh well. A match too far, it would seem, coupled with a revived A-Rod. I'm not too disappointed, I was worried that getting further would be too much, maybe cause an injury to put him out of the USO.
A bit of shame that the run had to come to an end, though it wasnt totally unexpected. A great string of performances which should leave him in good stead for the US Open!
he was absolutely fdrained and i cant help but think that if he was fit he would of taken roddick down- roddick played his best tennis for years and jus beat murray who was jaded and drained-- great intensity though from roddick but i know murray would of shown his more but he was rubber ducked
Watched the match. I think roddick showed bad sportmanship, but then he may have be overexcited wth fact he beaten an under-par Murray. For example, when murray attempted a passing shot which went wide, roddick put his finger up, was it to say he meant busy and was playing mind games with him. and a few times he kept staring at murray as if he was desperate to beat Murray!!
I was a wee bit disappointed with Roddick's behaviour in the match - he came across really classless. I like Roddick, but I thought his behaviour was pretty poor - the gestures, the comments and the shouting to his bench after Andy's errors were pretty rubbish. I think he could have shown a bit more class - the guy is a former world number 1 and he was playing a guy who looked like he was ready to keel over and collapse from about 4 games in and he was acting like a bit of a prat. I know there were other issues going on what with the Gilbert sub-plot and the fact that Andy had humilitaed him at Wimbledon, but the two of them apparently got along well off-court as recently as Wimbledon. You don't tend to act like that when you play someone you like.
I know he probably wanted to put down a marker for when they play again, but I didn't think he came across very well with it and I think that it will probably come back and bite him next time he draws Andy, because I believe Andy will remember it and I think 9 times out of 10 a fit Murray will beat a fit Roddick.
It would be kinda cool to have a genuine top-drawer rival for heated matches for Andy though. That would be fun.
