Assuming Andy gets through rounds 1 and 2, he'll be likely to play Gonzalez, who's been very impressive on hard courts in the past 4-5 weeks, reaching 3 SF's and 1 QF. Murray -who's been playing very well recently- is unlucky to prospectively have another on form player in the first week of the US Open, although, I believe that if Murray was to get past round 3, none of the eight potential 4th round opponents would be as tough as Gonzalez.
Kind of a bitter-sweet draw for Andy. He couldn't have asked for a much better draw in the first couple of rounds, especially since he keeps away from the dangerous floaters. On the other hand, beating Gonzalez over 5 sets would be a huge ask.
Seems a bit unfair that a guy who is ranked 17 should be scheduled to face a guy seeded 10 in the last 32. Meanwhile Ferrero, who just sneaked in at 16 is due to get the 21st seed.
Gonzo has been in good form...but Andy has been in the form of his life and this 'new' Murray is capable of beating ANYONE on his day...so hopefully we dont get a 1st rnd wobbly and get a Murray v Fed semi !

true that may be but then he gets the mighty fed. I honestly reckon if andy gets that far he'll come out all guns blazing and take gonzo out in 3 or 4 sets...
an ok draw, for andy. like he said on the bbc site, getting to the third round at least would be good for him. however, what if another seeded player above andy pulls out, will he gain another seed or remains 17th seed and LL spot is taken for the other one?
I think nothing would happen to Andy, he would stay "as is". I'm fairly sure last time this occurred (can't remember whether it was the French or Wimbledon) the next in line was named 33rd seed and stepped into the space created by the seed who had dropped out (lucky devil, getting a better placing than those higher up!)
