Re earlier, I think Dani has just clinched GB #1 spot by reaching the final but it looks like it will be extremely close between her and Hollie if Hollie wins the title ( I will come back to that if Hollie does win because I think Dani would need doubles SF points, a SF from which she and her partner withdrew from, and in seniors you can lose out for withdrawing ).
If Dani wins the title she will be clear GB #1 with Hollie clear #2.
Just noticed that there is a live stream of the finals on the tournament website https://itjr.ca/en Dani leads 6-1 3-0 but unfortunately Hollie has just had a medical timeout - looked like a nosebleed - and has gone off court to change.
Hollie was thankfully able to return after a 15-20 minute break. After a ginger restart when she trailed 0-5 Hollie has picked up, saved matchpoints and registered a couple of games. They are using a call challenge system - Hollie has used it twice since the break, once effectively
Dani was presented with a huge trophy and in her winners acceptance speech thanked the large crowd (3 figures), as one of the biggest outside a Slam and looked forward to hopefully playing Hollie in the US Open final
Well done Dani! Am I correct, that will move her somewhere into the top 30 and near the top 20?
I make it that Dani has moved to 1258 ranking points, equivalent to JWR 26 in the current 31/08 rankings and Hollie to 1072.25 points, equivalent to JWR 41.
So that's taking no account of other players' points movements this week with this tournament in particular plus others adding and most particularly the US Open 2025 points due to come off ( since a week earlier last year ).
The US Open is going to be very interesting, particularly if our players ( both girls and boys ) bring in this week's form, most importantly just to do well there but then to see how the rankngs shake out after that.
