Here is the updated table allowing for the substitutions. A few of the subs were perfect, earning people 20 points (including mine - Toby Samuel in at GB5, WR130) !
The table is based on the rankings of 13/07 so a direct comparison is possible. I'll run an update after the next set of WTA rankings come out.

Thanks TA- thats some lead youve got there!

Haha! indeed.

I had a minor suggestion for a points system enhancement next season - so, in the Tour de France, they have a points competition where riders get points for where they finish in a stage and in interim sprints.

Perhaps we could introduce bonus points eg - the leaders (say top 3) get a bonus at end of each slam - say 5
Points for the person leading coming out of the slam; 3 for second, 1 for third. Or 3, 2, 1.

Dont know , but may spice things up a little? Just an idea.

Yes, worth thinking about. It'll mean some changes to my spreadsheet, but as it is an occasional manual entry it would be just adding in a row or more for the bonus points, and changing the macros to allow for it.
We could also consider using two subs, but regardless the subs need to be named in advance with their predicted ranking. Or even allowing more changes. Took me around an hour to do all the subs this afternoon, so not a big deal.

Or maybe instead of a second sub, a joker sub. Ie at any point, separate to the post Wimbledon sub, someone can play a joker and make a random sub. But they can only do it once? Not sure if that would make your life too hard but maybe another idea?

The whole thing is great, so doesnt need changes - but they say change is important for survival or some such, so the odd idea like you did with the overall points this year.

Im going to change the scoring system for the slam wins thingy for next year, similar to one of the ideas put forward recently.

Sorry, I don't think the bonus points after Slams works well with this competition when we do have a starting order and are aiming at an ending order.

For the Aus Open, folk would certainly be in a good position for bonus points just by repeating the end of the previous year rankings. I guess it would introduce a jeopardy element of how much to take account of these staging points ( be they after the Slams or say every 3 months, for a longer initial period ), depending on the bonus points on offer. But I tend to think it would divert maybe too much from the normal simple main aim of getting as close as possible to the end of year rankings.

Personally, I rather like the one sub but no real problem with two.

As I say, no biggie, just an idea!

I'm not happy with the idea of awarding bonus points for mid season success. The whole point of this competition is to predict what the positions and rankings will be at the end of the season. Whilst the mid season updates are interesting, the actual positions are irrelevant. It would be like awarding bonus points for the team that was top of the Premier league in January!!!

Ha, it's good to have ideas, it can help make things better. Definitely don't be put off, just because anyone gives feedback that is against a specific idea.

I wont! i was going to suggest we try and get private investment in the competition so we can grow it for the future, but FIFA got there ahead of me - and it didnt go so well

I was worried I might have offended you last night when I saw your earlier post, but as you've now deleted it I'm hoping that's not the case.  You must know I'm a big supporter of all your initiatives and greatly appreciate all you do for the board.  Most of your ideas are brilliant, but this one just didn't feel right and I felt I needed to have my say before it got implemented.  I hope we're still good?

Course we are!! I realised I was acting like a spoilt brat and my comment back was done in haste! So decided to take it down!

All good!

Don't worry folks. It is always good to have a discussion and any new ideas are welcomed and will be considered. I am unlikely to make any changes to the competition, and anyway will reconsider all views before starting next year's version.
