The US Open main draw starts on Sunday, with Mika Stojsavljevic as defending champion (it is quite uncommon for this to happen in a junior Grand Slam). Joining her should be Hannah Klugman, Allegra Korpanec Davies and Brooke Black, while Oliver Bonding is the sole British acceptance in the boys event, looking to win his first Grand Slam match in his last appearance.
Qualifying starts tomorrow, and Ruby Cooling was in the list of acceptances last time it was visible. The draw takes place later today, with matches at the Cary Leeds Center, but scores will probably be on the US Open website. The US Open Juniors has its own website for anyone interested in background information.
Ruby made the qualifying draw, and later this evening takes on a 14 year old who was part of the US team that won the World Juniors (under 14) recently
Ruby took the first set 6-2 but has just the second 6-4. If she comes through she will be the third Brit to play Thara Gowda in the last 10 days (Mika beat her in Canada, bot she beat Allegra in College Park)
CD's post took me by surprise - they usually produce the main draws later on the Saturday. Allegra has a particularly tough draw on paper, against the Wimbledon champion.
Boys R1 (L64)
(14) Oliver Bonding v Jack Secord (USA)
Girls R1 (L64)
Leena Friedman (USA) v (Q) Ruby Cooling
(4) Mia Pohankova (SVK) v Allegra Korpanec Davies
(9) Mika Stojsavljevic v Sol Ailin Larraya Guidi (ARG)
Brooke Black v Maia Ilinca Burcescu (ROU)
(Q) Aspen Schuman (USA) v (2) Hannah Klugman
Brooke was first to play, as CD indicated, but lost 6-4 7-5. Her opponent tried to let her off the hook at 6-4 5-3 40*-0, missing an easy putaway then doublefaulting twice in a row on her first 3 matchpoints, (and contributing 2 further doubles in losing the game) but Brooke was unable to take advantage of her reprieve
