Boys & Girls: U9-U14 National Championships, Nottingham, hard (Week 34)

It is Grace and April who will contest the under 14 final, neither having lost more than 4 games in a match so far - though Leah unfortunately retired today. The under 11 titles were decided today, going to Louis Taylor, who had a battle in most of his matches, and Isla Skeates who won 3 of her 4 knockout matches losing one game only

SF

(1) Grace Watson d. (4) Hermione Korpanec Davies 6-2 6-2
(3) April Sackflame d. (8) Leah Bush 6-2 2-1 rtd

F

(1) Grace Watson v (3) April Sackflame

The level in the Grace v Hermione match was pretty disappointing, I thought

Have enjoyed the bits I've seen of the 11U and congrats to the singles winners Isla Skeates and Louis Taylor.

I've been most impressed by Isla but also Chayah Falola (1 year young) and Sophia Szczukiewicz.

In the boys draw stand outs have been Fletcher Davies and Maxime Gaugry (both a year young) and both pushed the eventual winner close. Also liked Mylo Bonello Hall's game style too.

Congratulations to April Sackflame on winning a very close under 14 girls final. I caught the last few games - April broke for 5-3 but was immediately broken back to love. She threatened to win it on Grace's serve, having 0-30 after two strong attacking points and deuce twice, but Grace was resilient and held then broke to serve for the match herself at 6-5. April retrieved the break to 15, leading to a tiebreak which April edged. She looks an exciting prospect.

The under 12s have reached the semifinal stage. The boys event has seen the 3 lads who successfully represented GB in the Winter and Summer Cup all progress here. Max Hodkinson has been untroubled all week, but Cameron Rae was pushed to 6-4 in the third by Matyas Oprchal. Tomas Gabor, the other squad member, had a competitive straight sets win over Louis Garner.

By contrast 4 of the 5 girls representing GB in the under 12 girls lost early in the knockout stage, leaving just Mika Stojsavljevic's sister Kaya in the semis.

Boys U12 SF

Max Hodkinson v Cameron Rae
Seb Beetlestone v Tomas Gabor

Girls U12 SF

Amarachi Ikem v Emma Fu
Anaiya Gupta v Kaya Stojsavljevic
