Auckland has played a few events on clay this year. He lost in rd1 of ATP Barcelona qualies and was hoping to play doubles with Andy but their combined ranking wasn't high enough to get into the draw.
He played the GB clay-court futures GB F7 and GB F8 but had some disappointing losses despite being seeded in both events. Since April he's reached 3 semis in doubles - Cardiff Challenger, GB F7 and GB F8.
Since then he's been training, he couldn't play the Masters Series events as he and Andy wouldn't have a high enough combined ranking for the doubles and he wouldn't get into singles qualies. It was worth it cost wise, to travel to Europe for a couple of futures.
Playing RG probably means forfeiting playing Surbiton next week, but an opportunity in a GS isn't to be turned down !
Auckland should be back for main draw doubles at SUrbiton though shouldn't he? If he isn't it means they beat the Bryans and don't need the Surbiton points.
2-1 Aussies. Ashley Fisher holds to 15. A little lull for our boys here.

If they win here and lose in rd2, Auckland should be able to make it back for doubles in Tuesday. However, the sign-in is on Monday and finding a decent partner to play with in that short space of time could be difficult.
Fisher is ranked 54 in doubs and Kerr is ranked 52. However, they've never done particularly well at RG, their best result is reaching the 2nd round. They're both doubles specialists, neither have ever been in the top 350 for singles.
If Murray/Auckland reach rd2 that will push James up near to the top 100 doubles. Hopefully he's able to crack that mark sometime during Queens, Nottingham and Wimby . That'll be important because he'll then be able to play ATP doubles on a regular basis and if Murray doesn't want to play with him regularly, he'll be able to find a regular partner on the tour.

Scoreboarding unfortunately. Maybe it'll be shown on BBCi if they play the Bryans in rd2 ?
Great break from the Brits and Auckland is serving now:
