RE: Girls: 2025 Wimbledon, grass (Week 28)

Both Hannah and Mimi have already matched what they did last year.

Flora was our best achiever last year as she reached the third round.

Dani B is new to this but has done so well in front of the crowd

Good luck to all 5 smile

Apart from Mika losing, the girls seem to have done alright? Compared to the boys at least.

Poor end to the first set from Hannah. Losing it 7-5.

What a match !

So touch and go

Huge congrats to Ruby - that was SO not easy

Dencheva served a few untimely DFs, but she was making a lot of balls, mixing it up, Ruby had to step up to the plate and win it - and what a winner on MP

That's such a good win for Ruby. Dencheva was a semifinalist both at Roland Garros and Roehampton, and a quality opponent. Best win so far.

Mimi has won the first set 6-1

Dani Britton started off slowly, made it hard for herself, but then at 4-1 or so really go going and - again - lay down a very resepctable performance - lots of positives, even though she lost 6-3 7-6(2)

Yes

But the Kovackova sisters are headcases, the two of them

Weird parent pressure, strange dynamics going on there

Ruby earns a crack at the French Open champion, who had a tough battle with Lea Nilsson, having to come from a double break down in set 2 before prevailing in 2 tiebreak sets. The winner of that match plays the winner of Mimi's match in the quarters. One top seed out is the Australian Open runner-up Kristina Penickova, seeded 4. However she is in arguably the weakest quarter of the draw, where there are no Brits left. Most of the lower seeds went out today as well.

Tomorrow sees round 1 doubles matches for the girls

R2

Tahlia Kokkinis (AUS) d. (WC) Daniella Britton 6-3 7-6(2)
Mingge Xu d. (12) Alena Kovackova (CZE) 6-1 6-2
(WC) Ruby Cooling d. (16) Rositsa Dencheva (BUL) 5-7 6-4 6-4
(6) Julieta Pareja (USA) d. (WC) Flora Johnson 6-2 6-2
(2) Hannah Klugman d. Anastasija Cvetkovic (SRB) 5-7 6-2 6-2

R3

Tahlia Kokkinis (AUS) v Mingge Xu
(WC) Ruby Cooling v (3) Lilli Tagger (AUT)
(13) Charo Esquiva Banuls (ESP) v (2) Hannah Klugman

In sum, all three girls in R3 have outperformed their showings last year

Hannah and Mimi lost in R2 previously.

And Ruby - the 'unknown star' - got knocked out in the first round of qualis last year - how's that for zero to hero?

This is now 180 points for all the R3 players

This will be a BIG addition for Ruby - it'll replace a 36 - which should get her up to just outside the top-100

All her other points basically come off in autumn - it'll be like Goldengrove unleaving

So it remains to be seen whether she'll play juniors for the rest of the year to try and get a top-100 finish

Or will move to adults whatever

Hannah's 180 points make no difference in the immediate but they do provide protection come August when her Canadian J300 points from last year come off - she'll only be down net 30 (am assuming she's not going to play any more juniors until US Open, and maybe not even)

It'll be net new points for Mimi. But she's done and dusted with juniors (she only has 4 counters) so it really makes no difference

Caveat: this is all based on where we are as of today, and doesn't take into account R3 wins - or doubles

Daft question probably , is Mimis opponent related to Kokkinakis, the Aussie male player?
