Girls: 2025 Wimbledon, grass (Week 28)

A great effort from Daniella, very impressed.

Brooke let that one slip through her fingers

Great scalp for Daniella (Vujovic is a top 10 junior despite her lightweight game) who weaved some nice patterns of play in the bits I saw.

Mega congrats to Dani

A welcome respite in a not very happy day

She thoroughly deserved that, from what I saw

And was one of the only players who looked cool and collected (although she probably wasn't)

Unlike Hollie and Megan, she didn't grimace and do battle with the ball on each shot, a lot of shots were guided left and right, and then she'd put a little more oomph on it

And some very brave drive volleys in there

Luna's had a nightmare recently - she won the J500 and then hasn't won a match since

But she's still a top player

Cracking win from Dani.

Is that 4 through now? Bit disappointing when you consider the calibre of players we have right now and being a home slam on grass which some of these players have never played on before.

Excellent win for Daniella - so clutch at critical moments towards the end of the match!

Never seen Ruby play, any info on her and what her potential could be?

She's at the Loughborough academy, I believe, so very well thought of

A nice fluid game, good leg bend, a pleasing style

Can't remember if she's signed up for college - Lambda will know

In terms of calibre of player, sometimes you can have a world class player, sometimes a number of players competing in bigger events, ideally you have both.

I remember French media talking about France having four world class players in Gasquet, Monfils, Simon and Tsonga, and Britain having a three-time Grand Slam champion in Andy Murray. Which is better? Am sure a lot of people would prefer to have a champion, but France is a much better example of a successful nation.

Looking at current British juniors, would we rather have three potentially world class players in Klugman, Stojsavljevic and Xu, or five players with the potential of winning multiple matches but no chance of winning a junior Slam. I don't think we can get too binary here.

For me as a Grand Slam nation, are we producing enough players competing at the highest levels, I would say not yet, but certainly an improvement on recent decades.

All the 5 winners are in the bottom half, which ends the unlikely possibility of an all-GB final. Unlike the women's draw there were few seeded casualties - Mika (7) being the highest.

Tomorrow sees the girls play singles only. Mimi is third on 12 (after Joe/Neal) while Hannah is first on court 18. Flora, Ruby and Daniella follow each other on court 4
