Dani unfortunately got broken at 5-5 from *40-15 and it cost her the set.

Hollie is very close to totally having the upper hand on the Spaniard but can't quite make it happen.

Mika's loss wasn't a great surprise.

 Disappointing from Mika whatever

She's a W35 winner and, obviously, a Grand Slam junior champion

Obvioulsy Mia P is a very good young player but so is Mika

Hollie is shooting herself in the foot by running round to take everything on her forehand

And, yes, Dani P was going along nicely and then a little sloppy, right at the end :(

It is indeed! Mika had quite a few games on grass as well v top level players that you'd hope would've gotten her upto speed well... but Mika since the US win has not won many matches! Confidence must be low.

Dani P does well to get herself back to *4-4 in the second from well behind only to throw in another bad game

It's a hobby horse of mine but giving an out of form Mika unwarranted wild cards in both the women's singles and doubles will have done her confidence no good at all. Her priority should have been the Juniors but heavy defeats in the Ladies have wrecked her chance. Putting her on (a near empty) Court 12 probably didn't help either!

I think the AELTC said the decision to give Hannah, Mika and Mimi MDWC was so as not to single any one of them out but unlikely to happen again next year, especially as Mimi won't be a junior anymore. Apart from beating Hannah at the national championships Mika has been struggling for some time.

This is not a disagreement or criticism - I just wondered what about her playing getting the wild cards wrecked her chances? Is it that you feel she might have got a win in qualifying which could have helped her do better in the juniors?

It would have done her confidence no good at all either to NOT be given a wildcard when the others were given one - that would have been a kick in the teeth

Hmmm.

Gutted for Mika. Shes barely won any matches this year at all except for the national champs. Hopefully now after the exams she can switch focus back to tennis and get something going.

A bit of realism. Our youngsters study and play and agree Servatron it is a difficult balancing act. The bigger picture is transitioning to seniors. Mimi is coping with this so well guided by Nigel and Katie. Another year or two and Hannah and Mika could be enjoying similar success. Just need to keep going and give it time. The other thing is to forget about Cinderella stories , instead look for steady but sustainable progress. Mika still has loads of potential just needs a bit more time.

Hopefully a couple of the girls in action today can join Hannah and Flora in the second round.
