Thanks. I thought I heard something about it in commentary but wasn't sure.

the commentators (Sam Smith etc) got it completely wrong - they assumed the umpire had messed up, said it wasn't possible that Grand Slams could be playing lets....

it does annoy me when the commentators don't do their basic homework

Mika's opponent does look fairly good. Tricky draw to play someone top 500 pro in round 1 but is unseeded because of their junior ranking. Did the junior slam seedings ever take account of WTA ranking? I feel like they might have done yonks ago, but likely inventing it.

Maybe Mimis opponent is feeling the same as Mimi is unseeded but has a WTA ranking of low 3000s?

Mika having a tough year after her massive one last year! Probably expected after those highs.

Dani unfortunately got broken at 5-5 from *40-15 and it cost her the set.

Hollie is very close to totally having the upper hand on the Spaniard but can't quite make it happen.

Mika's loss wasn't a great surprise.

There has always been a comparison table used for seeding purposes.  Effectively you usually need to be in the WTA top 300 to be seeded (it could be lower if several of the top ranked juniors are missing).  Many of the top juniors have good junior rankings and WTA, so if you had a combined system like Tennis Europe employs for under 16 competitions then players like Mimi and Pohankova would be seeded.

Mika lost 7-6(4) 6-1 and Hollie loses her first set 6-3

 Disappointing from Mika whatever

She's a W35 winner and, obviously, a Grand Slam junior champion

Obvioulsy Mia P is a very good young player but so is Mika

Hollie is shooting herself in the foot by running round to take everything on her forehand

And, yes, Dani P was going along nicely and then a little sloppy, right at the end :(
