Oli stands a decent chance even though its the 8th seed. Mark C and Ben G-W must also have a shout?

Oli won his opening set 6-1 but the second set is much closer (2*-3 at present)

Kennedy played much better in the second set, has good point construction when able to get into rallies, and ended up taking the tiebreak 7-5 Oli is generally serving well and dominating when able to land his first serve, but is prone to footfaults (5 I think so far)

Disappointingly Oli loses 1-6 7-6(5) 6-4 He needed a weaker opponent than Kennedy after the efforts of Roehampton, but the American played very well from set 2 onwards and did not face another breakpoint. One inspired return game was enough to seal the win.

Play suspended on outside courts. A storm can be heard up above.

Do we think this loss for Oli is worrying long term? Has he got the game to transition to pros next year? What can GB tennis do to improve the depth on the boys side because the girls seems better overall.

No - this loss is not worrying long term.  Winning Roehampton makes you very vulnerable early rounds at Wimbledon having little time to refocus mentally, so I half expected a loss.  There may be a question mark against his ability to raise his game for the top events though, as mazzy indicated he hasn't won a match in several (8 or 9) goes.

He has the type of game with weapons which will help his chances of transitioning, but was error prone today in rallies - perhaps because of mental tiredness - and will need to cut down on that.

I can't answer about GB tennis/LTA, but I will be looking for Mark, Rhys, Scott, Eric and Niall to develop over the 2 or 3 years so that the boys are more competitive at top junior events and beyond.

Thanks for a measured response amongst my sudden panic smile
