Girls: J300 Roehampton, grass (Week 27)

The elevation of Mika Stojsavljevic, Mimi Xu and Hannah Klugman to the Wimbledon main draw removes our three top-ranked girls from this event, but Allegra Korpanec Davies and possibly Brooke Black are direct entrants.  The qualifying draw is here featuring the likes of Hephzibah Oluwadare and Freya Peet, Qualifying is at Surbiton and starts tomorrow.

With a few matches still to go there are just 2 British winners so far, but one is a notable one by Rosie Cho over a Spanish girl ranked inside 100. However she has to take on the frequently mentioned Sakino Miyazawa in final qualifying, who beat her in the J30 Manchester final a week ago

Freya Peet won 11-9 in the MTB

And Hep also won in a MTB

But Elizabeth Evans lost a heartbreaker, 13-11

Hep decided that winning a MTB 10-6 wasn't close enough, so extended for her second match to 13-11, and became the only British girl to qualify - Freya and Rosie lost in straights. The girls drew more than their fair share of seeds, including Lilli Tagger and Julieta Pareja

What happened to Hep, who was one of our up-and-comers a couple of years back.

Matured early and was very good but hasnt progressed much since and has been easily over taken by many others. Happens a lot (Sevil Parviz and Isabelle Britton are two others who spring to mind) Hep is still a very good player and it isnt too late for her but she needs to try to find that bit extra to get back to the level she needs to be at. In the few matches I have seen she is making too many mistakes and also isnt controlling the points like she used to. It doesnt look like there are many technical issues but mostly confidence, belief, courage to go for it and shot selection. Thats just my opinion though obviously!

That definitely seems to be the way most of them are going, even if they still want to go pro. Daniela Piani has signed to North Carolina and Allegra Korpanec -Davis has signed to the University of Florida. Mia Wainwright is also planning on going but not sure where she has chosen.
