Boys: J300 Roehampton, grass (Week 27)

The traditional Wimbledon warm-up tournament starts at Roehampton on Sunday, with the wheelchair British Open also scheduled to start on Tuesday.  Only Oliver Bonding makes the main draw on ranking, joined by several British wildcards. Qualifying starts tomorrow, including Maximilian Carrier as highest ranked Brit. The qualifying draw is here

The first round of qualifying isn't yet complete, but wins for Zech Hamrouni and Alfie King over seeds have ensured at least one British qualifier. Louis Hull and Max Carrier also defeated seeds, who are all ranked inside 100

Zech wins the all GB clash to qualify. Louis and Max lost out in match tiebreaks. The result for Rafe Samuel (who beat an alternate yesterday) is not yet in.

Conor Brady showing as having switched to Thailand on my Resultina app. Not sure if that's a mistake.

Conor would probably not have been given a wildcard if he had transferred, and LTA/ITF are both showing GBR so almost certainly a mistake

Oli gets a quick victory 6-0 6-2

A disastrous day for the boys. 1 win is the lowest I can recall - usually a couple of the wildcards/qualifiers are able to notch up wins, but not this time, though there were close losses for Zech, Rhys and Eric

Hope Oli holds the flag going forward!

As an aside, the LTA site describes the events in Roehampton as the British Open, not just for the wheelchair but including the juniors in terms of how it is written. Anyone going there, is this being styled as the British Open ie it is also the British Open Juniors?

The event as a whole falls under Lexus's sponsorship of the summer grass events, and being called the Lexus British Open.

Oli comfortably through to round 3 but faces a tough match against the highly rated Dutch boy who became one of the youngest ever to crack the junior top 100 before being plagued by injuries.
