Katie is in London - pretty sure she'll play the play-offs. I mean she tried it last year.

She is at Queens watching her boyfriend, Alex Bolt.I'm pretty sure she will we playing a grass court tournament in the next few days

She hasn't withdrawn from Palma yet which is hard outdoor

Keeping her options open ? Still time to play the playoffs and get to Palma for Sunday qualifying if she loses.

Or even just maybe a fortnight preparing well for the main event ...

Is she going to be a commentator?

If there was any doubt before, I'm now fairly certain Mimi has done enough to have 2 feet in the main draw WC camp, giving someone else a chance in qualifying.

 Yes, absolutely

The LTA would definitely like to move the three girls up

But Mimi.is clearly the top pick and shown she can justify the place

Wild Card Play-off place

Unusually Brit heavy, not complaining! I guess LTA didn't want to spit the three juniors.

Strong use of the qualifying wildcards too. And nice to see the doubles wildcards being allocated although in the past we might have expected a couple of these pairs/players to get in on ranking.

Doubles:

1 Emily APPLETON (GBR) and Heather WATSON (GBR)
2 Alicia BARNETT (GBR) and Eden SILVA (GBR)
3 Jodie BURRAGE (GBR) and Sonay KARTAL (GBR)
4 Harriet DART (GBR) and Maia LUMSDEN (GBR)
5 Hannah KLUGMAN (GBR) and Mika STOJSAVLJEVIC (GBR)
6 Ella MCDONALD (GBR) and Mingge XU (GBR)
7 To be announced

I know Wimbledon favours Brit pairings but Barnett and Silva together? Sometimes these pairings just don't work - but would if they let them have a WC with their usual partner. (There's a few odd mens pairings too, for the same reason)

that makes 10 GB women in thee main draw, with the possibility of course of more through qualifying. Is this a modern record?

Certainly a case of players being bumped up a level this year. The irony is that while it's a massive show of strength in depth in the women, it will probably lead to increased first round exits in both main draw and qualies (we won't have the likes of Sonay, Fran etc getting qualy wins) and rants in the press about how everyone is losing!!

The perfect scenario of course is everyone embraces the higher level and steps up their performance accordingly!

You have to wonder how on earth they come to these decisions. Lissey hasn't played with Eden since February 2019, and the partnership with Elixane seems to be getting better and better.

And Ella and Mimi ? As far as I know they have never played together. Both deserve a place, but Ella has won five titles with Holly over the last 14 months.

I assume Maia and Harriet weren't far out in the entry list - and of course Liv and Tereza are likely to be seeded (haven't checked recently)

Just looking at the youngsters, I think the performances of all three girls have shown they are not out of place at this level

This is an investment for the future, as far as the LTA are concerned

(not to mention that it effectively gives each one of them £66k which can then be docked from their grants !)

Hannah played pretty well, even if she lost 6-2 6-2

It was against a top-30 player, she was in the rallies - as said, the LTA would have been quite happy with it
Mika the same, and has some wins
Mimi even better in terms of wins

I am really pleased that the LTA have had the gumption to go for it

Marni is the only Brit who might possibly have a gripe

(And Iva Jovic and Lois Boisson, of course, but hey)

Extremely disappointed that Alicia Dudeney hasn't been given a doubles WC. NCAA doubles semi-finalist. 2 entries in Top 25 college rankings this year with different partners. Why not LTA?

I agree CD. I wonder if the  strategic change is seeing how Iva and Emerson have benefited from receiving early wildcards as the move across to seniors. I think I would have been more radical and made Dart play qualifiers and put Marin into the main draw. After all she is the only one of the bunch of non juniors to have made a QF on grass, like Mimi. Anyway good to see.

Holly seems particularly hard done by.
