Boys & Girls: J200 St. Poelten, Austria, clay (Week 19)

Three J200 events this week, with just Ruby Cooling in the main draws, from a British perspective.  Max Carrier lost in qualifying here.

Girls R1 (L32)

(8) Ruby Cooling v (WC) Kara Fronek (AUT)

On paper it looked a comfortable match for Ruby, against a wildcard with around 50% success in low grade events, but she was pushed to a final set tiebreak before coming through. She is top seeded in doubles, with the same partner as last week (where they reached the semis), while Max is also in his doubles draw.

Girls R1 (L32)

(8) Ruby Cooling d. (WC) Kara Fronek (AUT) 4-6 6-2 7-6(3)

R2

(8) Ruby Cooling v Klara Blazkova (CZE)

Ruby wasn't able to take advantage of her narrow escape, so British hopes rest with the doubles, where Max+ squeaked home 11-9 in the match tiebreak in round 1 (Ruby+ had a bye)

R2

Klara Blazkova (CZE) d. (8) Ruby Cooling 6-4 6-4

Ruby+ have improved on last week's semi and so Ruby plays her first J200 doubles final just 2 weeks after her first J200 singles final

Girls Doubles F

(1) Cooling/Montoya (GBR/USA) v (2) Drobysheva/Kmiecik (UKR/POL)

Don't want to steal David's thunder but it's quite early in the day and he might not be around until evening so, with apologies:

Girls Doubles FINAL

(1) Cooling/Montoya (GBR/USA) def. (2) Drobysheva/Kmiecik (UKR/POL) 6-4 6-3

A super title for Ruby, and on clay !
