Tomas Gabor won easily today and is into the QFs

Both Emma Fu and Sahara won their consolation matches. Honey lost hers.

Kai plays later today.

Tomas seems to be doing well, what do you make of his game?

 Only my tuppence-ha'penny worth:

It's difficult with the boys because they are such little skinny lads, knee high to a grasshopper, nearly all of them....

BUT, with that proviso, I like Gabor's game a lot from what I've seen this week

I love players who have a very relaxed, fluid 'arm', it allows him to suddenly accelerate balls (his forehand down the line is a wonder at times)

And he's obviously a natural ball player and sees spaces well

PS It is very early though, at 12

The little I saw of Kai yesterday was a different game - more deliberate, more 'posed', as the French would say. But very solid, and with signs that he can do other things too (one absolutely super approach shot and volley)

PPS - An excellent, stellar level match in the girls between Jansone and Pronenko this morning - really impressive

Thanks CD - interesting to hear your thoughts.

Tomas rolls on to the semi finals in a closer encounter than the 6-2 6-2 score line suggests. A good win considering how well his opponent did at the recent Winter Cup.

Yes. His opponent seemed a little perplexed as to why he was losing - he was playing quite well, doing his thing, and yet on the wrong side of the score by quite a way

Yes, it could have been really tricky for Tomas at 3-2 second set with his opponent gaining momentum but Tomas stayed calm and had that belief he could swing back the momentum in his favour. Very mature and composed performance.

Kai wins his match in a great battle against a French opponent. So it will be Kai vs Tomas in the SFs. :)

A hard-fought win for Kai, 6-3 6-4, over a young French boy with quite a lot of natural talent

Kai was very patient, very level-headed, taking his chances when he could and not getting down on himself when he couldn't

And very fairplay at the end - going to check the other kid was OK when he fell backwards on his tricky smash on match point (he was OK - it was more the disappointment of missing his smash, and losing - but Kai was far quicker than the umpire)

I agree re sportsmanship - very mature thing to do. Thought the approach play with good dropshots/angles/volleying really stood out for me from both players.

A little shoutout for Emma Fu

Who has made the final in the consolation draw

And who also had to play Rebic in the first round - a very impressive Serbian young girl, who is now in the SFs of the main draw - and who lost 5 games against Emma, but in her next rounds lost 1 game, then 1 game, then 2 games ...

Kai won the battle of the Brits. So he will play a Czech player in the final tomorrow around 2.30pm.

From the parts I saw, Kai/Max played his tennis, put out a decent performance, but he was simply outgunned by an impressive Czech lad

An excellent week though from Kai/Max to make the final - there was a very large crowd, a lot of fanfare etc - it's very good experience for him

(Young Tina Jansone who won the title in the girls has a super game, technically very good for her age, controlled agression, and with a head on her shoulders too)

Shame Kai couldn't take the title but as said he has still had a very good week - well done.
