They want to boycott Andy because he had the audacity to say he wasn't going to support England at the WC and would be cheering on Paraguay, Sweden and Trinidad & Tobago. They are going to cheer on everyone that Andy is playing against apparently.
I'm sure he'll really care but honestly, are they so insecure and petty that they need everyone to support them? England has a population of over 50m, I'm sure they can get by without the support of the Scots, the Irish and the Welsh. I know a Canadian who wouldn't dream of supporting the USA, and a Kiwi who would rather gouge her own eyes out that cheer Australia on for success in anything. Talk Sport kinda has to get over it. Although come Wimbledon time, it'll be interesting to see how their boycott goes.
I'm sure people who actually have any sense they would realise that Andy was just saying that in a Tongue in Cheek and it just kind of shows how easily it gets to these people at Talk Sport.. Most Scots who don't support the English are ones who are the ones who are just peeved off of the English reminding them they won the world all the way back in 66 well that what I think it is..
Plus I'd doubt there will be much of a boycott of Andy if he's the only Brit left in the draw when it comes to Wimbledon or at all..

To be honest I don't think that Andy is ever going to have a massive following amongst the british public. He doesn't come accross as overly likeable, doesn't seem remotely interested in being diplomatic, has a habit of rubbing people up the wrong way and doesn't conform to how people expect a British tennis player to behave. This doesn't bother me too much and more importantly I don't think it bothers Andy too much.

But then, in international competitions, I cheer on Scotland and Wales as well. . .(as long as they are not playing England!)
That's great - but I wouldn't take it personally when others don't follow the same way you do. It's just rivalry - the Belgians won't be supporting the Dutch at the WC and I'm sure, if Germany gets to the WC finals against a South American team that most people in England won't be supporting them despite them being a fellow European country. I just think some of the people who are going off on one and screaming xenophobia are living outwith reality. It is normal and healthy for people to cheer on their rivals opponents. I'm a Celtic fan, even though Rangers are Scottish - so you not think I was cheering on all the teams who were playing against them in Europe? It's just what you do when your rivals are playing. To Scots, England are their main rivals. To England, Germany are their main rivals. To Germany, Holland is their main rival - it goes on like that.
Just to clear up though - I supported England at the cricket (I don't actually like cricket, but I liked the players because they seemed down to earth and normal) so I'm not totally against England sports teams. I supported England at the Rugby WC against the Aussies as well, but I ended up regretting that after we got that rammed down our throat so much. It's just a rivalry thing, it's nothing to do with disliking people coming from England and I'm sure that is the case with Andy and everyone else who is cheering on the other nations.
