well done to Alfie, a straight sets win over de la Puente (26-2 career H2H against DLP - which seems quite weird given DLP is WR 4!), in what was Alfie's first match in almost 2 months, since the USO.
Ruben Harris and Joshua Johns are both into semis of the Abingdon Futures event, a long standing event on the GB calendar that probably has a standing similar to Shrewsbury/Wrexham ITF 100 event on the pro tour. Good luck to them both today.
They didnt need luck - they kicked ass! Gordon thrashed Gustavo Fernandez and Alfie did the same to his second Spanish opponent and they now meet in the singles final tomorrow.
Great form from both and an all British final.
And they also won their doubles semi, albeit 11-9 in the MTB, and play in that final tomorrow also.
Alfie prevails and takes the Paris Masters singles final with a 3 set win over Gordon. First two sets very close but Alfie pulled away to win the third comfortably.
Not sure of the score, but photos suggest Alfie and Gordon lost their doubles final- theyve not had the usually dominant year of past seasons. Hope they get it right for the Tour Finals in a week or so.
A reminder that the Wheelchair Masters starts tomorrow.
The singles is sponsored by NEC, and we have Alfie and Gordon in the mens and Andy in the quad. All are 8 player fields, the format is the same as the ATP and WTA end of season finals.
The doubles is under the Uniqlo banner, same venue obviously and in that we have Alfie and Gordon as a pair. In quad we have Andy with Aussie partner Heath Davidson and Greg with another Aussie, Jin Woodman.
The mens and quad doubles are 6 pair fields and a number of top players in the mens who might have qualified but arent in singles, havent made the trip to China. The womens doubles is only a 4 pair field for similar reasons. Which is a shame.
Draws are being made today, action starts tomorrow.
Mens doubles - a pair has pulled out, leaving it as 5 pairs. Alfie and Gordon are in the 2 pair group from which 2 progress. Mm. www.itftennis.com/media/15309/md-a.pdf
The doubles draws seem almost pointless in terms of numbers and qualify and make me wonder if theyll re think the format for next year. Mens were supposed to be 8 pair fields, they have 5. Womens 6 pair field and they have 4. Quads was actually a 4 pair field but 6 pairs have entered
