The crowd, who have been virtually silent so far, are finally getting into the match as an against-the-odds pass gives Monfils game point, but Murray hits back magnificently with a return winner. The Frenchman hangs on to take it to a tiebreak.

Philippe Chatrier stadium is still not full - probably because of the unseasonal weather. The absentees are missing an absorbing match. Murray looks like he's cruising to a love service game at 40-0 but he lets Monfils back in. It looks like Murray's drop shot could be the story of this match - two terrible efforts gift Monfils break points but the shot also gets the Briton out of trouble in an epic game.
