Realise the surface wasnt our best, but it felt like we should have got further this week. Oh well. On to North America for Hannah, not sure of Mikas plans?
A disappointing result given that we beat the German team in the European Summer Cup semis, with Hannah and Mika comfortably beating the same German pair in the decisive doubles. We play Australia tomorrow in the 5th - 8th place play-off
QF
GBR 1 Germany 2
Hannah Klugman beat Mariella Thamm 6-2 7-6(3)
Mika Stojsavljevic lost to Julia Stusek 3-6 3-6
Klugman/Stojsavljevic lost to Stusek/Thamm 4-6 1-6
I thought both Hannah and Mika would both have one more chance next year. But I see Mika's dob is in December 2008 so assuming eligibility is by calendar year (?) she just misses out. Whereas Hannah is February 2009.
A comfortable win for Hannah as well, so we play Japan for 5th tomorrow. Romania (who we beat in the European Summer Cup final) beat Germany and take on USA, who lost their first set today to Czechia, in the final
Not such a good result then as 2023, when we came third, and that was on clay as well. Nevermind, still a very young team and we had Mimi last year who had a bit more experience. Next time maybe.

An extraordinary end to the campaign. Hollie and Mika were 9-3 down in the match tiebreak before winning it 12-10 to win the tie and claim 5th place. The USA won the Junior Billie Jean King Cup for the sixth time in seven (they did not enter in the other Covid affected year) but lost a match for the first time, beating Romania 2-1.
5th - 6th place playoff

Hannah Klugman lost to Kanon Sawashiro 6-4 1-6 [9-11]
