Please do keep commenting. You offer great insights that this forum would be much worse without. I'm sure folk would rather hear from you more than me.

I agree. Your insight into the junior players is very informative and I hope you continue.

I'm nor down today, but hopefully tomorrow.

One insight I noticed is at both TE and ITF juniors, the majority of players seem to be from full time academies, Bolton, Bath, Loughborough etc or private schools such as Reeds, Queenswood, Culford, Millfield or Merchaston.

I wonder if the new tax on private schools will reduce numbers?

Out of interest - for the academies and the private schools are whatever fees are involved usually paid for by the student/parents or are they on scholarships etc? Not sure how the model works?

And is it different for academies (presumably fully funded ie free) and schools (presumably a mix of scholarships/free and part scholarships and fully paid for by the parents - if a player is not on a scholarship would this imply they arent as talented?)

No idea on the academies, but private schools parents will fund unless under a scholarship.
I found the fees for Reed school online

Fees for Autumn 2024 ; Day Pupils (Years 7 & 8), £8,465 per term ; Day Pupils (Years 9 to 13), £10,155 per term ; Boarding Pupils (Years 7 & 8), £11,285 per term.

I mean 25/35k per year is a level that would price most people out!

Tennis Europe finals

April Sackflame (WC) v Grace Watson

Phasing Sinchalong (THAI) v Samuel Hostiuc

April seems to be based out of Bolton, who seem to have a good junior set up. Grace Watson is a tall girl, who has done well here before and is Dorset based.
Samuel Hostiuc is at Aldenham school in Hertfordshire

Didn't see too much of the boys matches as I went next door to the athletics to help out, however I did see Rafa Samuel win very comfortably and the start of Brennan Foster was lively with an argument over a call and a code violation. However Brenna is quite talented and he came through qualifying.
In the girls, Eloise big serve was the key. I think she got to double figures in aces against a very useful Gracie, who I've never seen before until this week.
Isabelle continued her strong form with a very solid performance in a good match against Celine.
Daisy made far too many errors and punished by Fran who was very solid again.
Nehir was very lucky to get through as Sophie J was a break up in the final set and well on top, when she twisted her ankle and had to retire. Sophie injury meant a walkover for Daphne and Katie Randall, so Katie gets her first ranking point....
Isabelle Moss continues to impress playing solid tennis against an out of sorts Emilijia
Didn't see much of the Lucy v Sofia match other than Lucy won courtesy of a double fault.Sofis has nort really come on since I last saw her and is so reliant on the big serve firing.
Abi Redman only lives down the road. She has a big serve and big forehand, but is now a lot more consistent than she has been in the past.
Karina Kiss was very inconsistent in both matches this week and Annabel was too strong.

I expect the top match to be tight, but Fran, Isabelle M and Nehir should come through.

Good win for Scott, I didn't expect that result.

Hardly saw any of the TE, but did watch Fred F in a very long match. Both him and his opponent were very small, but capable. Fred is obviously at Reed as Ben Haran was watching as was Chris Wilkinson

I love your reports, paulisi, and I hope you don't mind but I was going through and catching up with old posts for when I was away, and this just made me laugh - junior tennis is the complete downfall of all of us who try to predict ! biggrin

When your ranked around 1000 - 1500 then consistency becomes an issue. It's quite hard physically and mentally to put solid back to back games
