Boys & Girls: 2024 Tennis Europe U14 Masters, Monte Carlo, Monaco, clay (Week 43)

In the current Loughborough thread, Rose has drawn our attention to Megan Knight having made the Tennis Europe U14 Masters event.  Since Tennis Europe has put out an article with all the qualified players and reactions here I will start the thread early.  Eric Lorimer, Scott Watson and Niall Pickerd-Barua qualify as the top three boys.  Live streaming is promised when the event starts, and there have been just 2 previous British winners - Liam Broady in 2008 and Joshua Sapwell in 2010

Unfortunately Eric has withdrawn. Daniel Baranes, the Israeli who has had several tussles with Megan, notably in the U12 Orange Bowl final, has been added as a wildcard. Round Robin matches start on Wednesday.

Live scores are expected here and live streaming here with details of the round robin groups here (Scott and Niall are top seeds in their respective groups, and both are scheduled to play at 9am tomorrow). Megan is second on court B

Megan lost her ding-dong match, so not a great start, though Niall's opponent was one of the Spaniards who have caused problems for all the British boys, and he duly completed the set of wins over Eric, Scott and Niall. Tomorrow Megan starts on court A at 9am BST, followed by Scott taking on the other winner in his group.

Boys RR1 Group A

(1) Scott Watson d. Max Lorincik (SLO) 6-1 7-5

Boys RR1 Group B

Toni Escarda Pineiro (ESP) d. (2) Niall Pickerd-Barua 6-2 6-3

Girls RR1

(4) Maria Valentina Pop (ROU) d. Megan Knight 7-6(5) 7-5

Megan had a good win today, as did Scott, but Niall is out of contention after a second defeat. Scott will top his group if he wins tomorrow and Megan might, depending on the other match in her group. Scott is first on Court B and Megan second on court 1

Boys RR1 Group A

(1) Scott Watson d. Pablo Pradat (FRA) 6-1 6-2

Boys RR1 Group B

Alex Tuomolin (FIN) d. (2) Niall Pickerd-Barua 1-6 6-4 6-4

Girls RR1

Megan Knight d. (2) Laura Chlumska (CZE) 3-6 6-4 6-3

Is Scott through to the semis regardless or does he still need a win?

There are no semi-finals.  Winners of the 2 groups play-off for the title on Saturday, those second in the RR groups play-off for 3rd/4th etc.

Megan won and Laura beat Maria
I think thats puts Laura and Maria on a win each and Anastasiia and Megan on 2 wins each. I believe it then goes on the head to head win which would mean Megan top of the box

I know Scott is at the academy now but what a great result for Culford School/RPDC to get 2 players to this level at the same time

Yes, confirmed by Tennis Europe. Laura's win stopping a 3 way tie and need for a calculator.  Scott's appearance in the final is the third by a British boy, but Megan is the first British girl to make that stage.  Scott will therefore aim to stop Toni Escarda Pineiro's run of wins against top Brits this year (he also won all his group matches in straight sets) while Niall plays off for 5th/6th.  Megan takes on the Czech third seed, who won Group A without dropping a set.

Megan is on court 18 tomorrow (presumably court 1 on the streaming link earlier in this thread) scheduled for 9am BST, followed by Scott

Boys RR3 Group A

(1) Scott Watson d. (4) Johann Nagel-Heyer (GER) 6-0 6-1

Boys RR3 Group B

(2) Niall Pickerd-Barua d. (3) Andrei Radu (ROU) 4-6 6-4 6-2

Final

(1) Scott Watson v Toni Escarda Pineiro (ESP)

Girls RR3  Group B

Megan Knight d. Anastasiia Nikolaeva (UKR) 6-1 7-5

Final

(3) Katerina Zajickova (CZE) v Megan Knight
