Excellent win

I think Mika served something like 12 aces

And that's against Emerson, who's very light on her feet, very fast reactions, can normally get her racket on anything

That's a great win for Mika. Notice though that Emerson has played only one match since Wimbledon and I wonder if concentrating on schooling or slightly injured.

Taking nothing away from Mika mind.

there was an interview with her in Zoo tennis, which wasn't very revealing but did say that she achkowledged that she wasn't playing her best at the moment, and was working really hard on trying to get herself out of trouble, to play smart, because she wasn't really firing on all cylinders

Which didn't work today

Although I thought she (Emerson) played a smart match - cut down the errors in the second set - read Mika's favourite serves far better, anticipated well etc etc - and still lost :)

I don't know why Emerson has played so little, but it obviously hasn't helped her preparations here - she had to battle through two tight matches in the opening rounds, and that was likely to take its toll eventually, unless she found a way to win quickly

An impressive scoreline from Mimi - just the sort of match she needed after 2 scratchy 3 setters, particularly with the impressive Tyra Grant as quarter-final opponent. Tyra has cruised through her matches, and reached the main draw Mixed Doubles semis to boot

Girls R3

(8) Mimi Xu d. (10) Rositsa Dencheva (BUL) 6-2 6-1

QF

(8) Mimi Xu v (2) Tyra Caterina Grant (USA)

There wasn't a great deal to watch in that match

Two GB girls and one GB boy in the QFs

(and that's not counting the doubles )

Smiles at the LTA ....

I think Emerson will still be the new JWR 1 on Monday unless Grant or Jovic become the champion.
