Megan's loss was to Anna Pircher who is a very strong 2010 player, and was only 6-4 7-5
Dani lost 6-4 6-3, against Haider-Maurer, which is a decent score too
And this match was only for seedings in the finals stage, so nothing much matters
Except group winners avoid other group winners so a tougher quarterfinal. I wonder if Haider-Maurer is the daughter of former Austrian Davis Cup player Andreas Haider-Maurer.
I don't really believe in that - there's so much random stuff in rankings and play at this level that I'm not sure that you take much away in terms of who are stronger or not
France were the second seeds, on UTR/WTN paper, in the U16, came top of their group, and are now playing off for 7th and 8th

And anyway you've got to beat them all to win
Yes a fair point, although France could be considered unlucky to be drawn against Czechia, who were runners-up in GB's qualifying group. But maybe Austria are the team to beat and other group winners won't be as strong.
The boys rested Eric and lost to Japan, so ended in second place in their group. Although sometimes finishing second doesn't give you a worse draw, it appears to have this time. We play top seeds USA in the quarter-finals, who are yet to lose a set. Their number 1 is Les Petits As champion Michael Antonius. The match will be on the streamed court 2
Boys Round Robin Group C
(3)GBR 0 (5)Japan 3
Scott Watson lost to Kango Endoh 6-7(8) 5-7
Niall Pickerd-Barua lost to Takahiro Kawaguchi 3-6 3-6
Lorimer/Pickerd-Barua lost to Kawaguchi/Ogaki 4-6 7-6(1) [2-10]
The girls earn a quarter-final against Germany, whose two singles players are Viktorija Cesonyte, winner of last week's Super Category event, and the highly-rated Ida Wobker.
In answer to a question earlier, Austrian Lea Haider-Maurer is the niece of former ATP player Andreas
Girls Round Robin Group D
GBR 1 (3)Austria 2
Daniella Britton lost to Lea Haider-Maurer 4-6 3-6
Megan Knight lost to Anna Pircher 4-6 5-7
Britton/Knight beat Frodek/Haider-Maurer 6-1 6-2
Well, that could have been a kinder draw but you've got to beat them at some point so, QF or SFor final, it doesn't really matter (to me)
Cesonyte is the Lithuanian player who's just changed tennis nationality to German - got a pretty strong results card - a lot of people really rate her. I haven't seen her play properly - just little bits here and there, so have no idea, and she seems a little up and down in matches, but she's obviosuly favourite here
That was tense!!! What a win over germany for GB girls in a close 10 point tiebreak! Megan also seemed to have a good competitive game against the highly rated/mentioned Wobker!

With the top 3 seeds all making the semis winning a medal will be difficult for the girls unless one of their opponents is, like Germany, unable to play their number 1. Czechia are highly reliant on their number 1 Jana Kovackova, who is already in the ITF top 200 as well as Tennis Europe number 1. Their semi is likely to be on a streamed court, given they are playing the hosts and top seeds.
Girls QF
GBR 2 (5)Germany 1
Daniella Britton beat Tina Manexcu 6-3 6-2
Megan Knight lost to Ida Wobker 3-6 4-6
Britton/Knight beat Manescu/Wobker 7-5 3-6 [10-8]
Am I right in thinking Megan is a year younger than the others in semi final so she will have another go next year whatever the result here? Wobker, kovackova and pircher are all 2010 but Megan is 2011?

Megan is born Feb 2011
Jan Kovackova is June 2010
Ida Wobker is Sept. 2010
Dani Britton is Nov 2010
So Megan is 6 months younger than Ida
and about 9 months younger than Jana
and 3 months younger than Dani
She's in the same July-June mid-year as Ida
But a different calendar year for tennis admin purpose
So far this morning, Dani lost 4 & 3, which was a fair score
And Megan has also lost the first set 2-6, again which is fair on the play
