WOW!!!!!! She obliterated her poor opponent! She is seriously good from what Ive just watched. Great technique, good court coverage and goes for her shots at the right moment. Accurate serve and just al round good! Scot Watson who I saw a bit earlier was sat behind as it happens along with some friends. They seem really nice and it seems we have a good bunch of youngsters coming through. Someone asked for his autograph and I told him what an excellent match point he won by. He seemed really humble and honoured whilst his friends were saying how does it feel to be famous!. Nice to see Eric win too in a close tiebreak earlier. And more chances for Niall who lost to a powerful opponent from brazil but a lot to like about his game. Astonius who is top seed took a surmising loss so an open group for Niall too!
So in the boys wins today for Eric and Scott but losses for Aran and Niall. They play 2 matches tomorrow to decide semi-final places.
In the girls there were 2 wins for Megan, who plays American Welles Newman tomorrow for a semi-final place. Danielle won 1 and lost 1 (against the top seed) while Liv lost both her matches.
Isn't the lack of Europeans just a reflection of the fact that American's dominate the top of the U14 UTR and WTN ratings and Europe barely have any?
Of the 8 invitations by committee, 4 went to USA/Canada, 2 to Asia, 1 to GBR and 1 to other European.
The top 20 of the WTN have 12 USA/Canada, 5 Asians and 3 Europeans The top 20 of the UTR have 9 USA/Canada, 5 Asians, 5 Europeans and 1 South American.

The final eight in the main draw of Juniors has 6 European players and 2 non-European
Which sort of illustrates what I was saying: that whatever system they're using for the U14, the end result is not illustrative of actual junior tennis
And Megan Knight comes from a set down, to win her match against the highly-rated US girl, a year old, Newman, which assures Megan of making it into the SFs

Amazing from Megan, well done to her! Where does she rank compared to her rivals her age or similar? Should she start thinking about ITF juniors instead of TE? And what is her game style?
The LTA must be a bit disappointed with the GB boys. 4 in there and 3 of them are now 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the TE rankings but not one of them won their box. Eric was close but Niall didnt win a set in 3 matches. Strange
So the only Brit to top their group was Megan 9the only girls group where the top seed didn't progress to the semis). Her reward is a semifinal against top seed Jana Kovackova, who has beaten her easily on the two occasions they have played this year. Their match is scheduled for 11am on court 8.
Danielle ended up with 2 wins and 1 loss, Liv with 1 win and 2 losses. Both enter consolation
In the boys Eric came close to a semifinal place with 2 wins and 1 loss as the boy he lost to only squeaked through his third match 11-9 in a match tiebreak. Had he lost narrowly I think Eric would have won the group. Scott also won 2 matches, but Aran and Niall (as Rose mentions) haven't registered a win yet.

Niall and Scott's rankings owe a lot to being in a country with 3 strong players, and hence able to score highly in the team events (which count significantly towards TE14 rankings), plus playing more tournaments than most of the TE top 10. The only European to qualify for the semis Stan Put would be ranked ahead of them if he had the same team points. Overall though I have the impression that it is not the strongest European cohort this year.
Looks like they aren't showing courts 7 to 11 and 13, so most of the under 14s aren't there, even if they are SFs, sadly. I was hoping to see Megan Knight this am.
