Boys: 2024 Wimbledon (Week 28)

Luke ended up losing 4-6 too (although a rather closer set, with break chances)

Charlie has got pushed further and further back - he's practically playing his shots against the back fence - I think his coach will tell him to move forwars - he can't win back there

CHarlie did indeed step in a little, and was also a bit more aggressive in his actual shots

And went up a break

Before getting pegged back and ending up in a TB

Which was a bit ropey at the start - but he played three super shots towards the end - and we're now into a third set

He's done well to win the second set after the disappointment of being broken back. He's winning a lot of the points when he comes to the net but needs to up his first serves in percentage as it's putting him under pressure.

And he's way too far back on the second serve return - doesn't need to be and he ends up being sewpt left and right like on a bit of string

Yes, I didn't notice this until you pointed it out but yes!

I'm hoping Kim might get a bit tired too

He plays with a lot of physical effort in his shots - he's got to get a bit tired, surely ? #fingerscrossed

And Charlie broke

(Maybe I'm just imagining it but it did look to me as though Kim was possibly suddenly lacking a bit of spring in his step - I'm getting a voodoo doll from Amazon next !)

And Luke - just trying to upset the tournament ref who wants the quickest matches possible today - managed to get the second set - a reall tussle - he did really well

But CHarlie does it !

On his third MP (I think)

Super battle from both players

Fantastic backhand from Charlie to win him the third MP.

Definitely needs to up his first serve % - currently 51% as when it goes in he was winning 78% of his points. Also a whacking 89% of net points won.

More than deserved to win though, with 106 points as opposed to his opponent's 96 points. I hope his coach tells him to be a bit careful at hitting balls when not in play as he nearly hit a ballgirl when he lost the second set!

Yes, with our support, Nix, he made it biggrin

And, as you say, he deserved it - no question

I think most of the net points must have been in the third set - I don't think he barely got to the net in the first set - which I think was because Charlie was so far back and Kim's tennis balls were SO heavy in the first set, and they lost a little bit of power as it went on

And, yes, focus on that first serve percentage (although, as a shot, I like his second serve - it's a lot better placed than many players')

And definitely don't hit ball girls !

Not sure if Luke will make it - but it's a great battle too

Yes we helped him over the line smile

I only saw the last bit of the 2nd set and the final set!

I just saw Luke didn't quite make it which is a real shame.

Yes. Luke's was a good match - he can't be too disappointed - he played well - the other guy just about deserved it

Charlie only made the second round last year, so this is already one better

And will be 80 net new points for him, I make it - some way to getting back towards his CH

And now it's Mark's turn in the GBR v KOR arena

And Charlie Swaine to try and make a pair of right ol' Charlies

Unfortunately I have to go out. Am disappointed I can't see the other matches! I've just amended my post about the opponent. I thought the Jones Rottgering match was over but I must have made a mistake as they're still playing!

I'll hold your place for you, Nix

Mark Ceban has just smashed his way through the first set 6-2 against a Korean player who doesn't seem to be offering very much so far
